Book on calligraphy artwork launched in AIOU

ISLAMABAD: A book on the calligraphic artwork of Hafiz Muhammad Yusuf Al-Sadidi “Jamal e Yusuf Al-Sadidi” was launched at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) yesterday.

Vice Chancellor, AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood presided over the ceremony while the Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning, Punjab University, Prof. Dr. Moeen Uddin Nizami was the chief guest.

On the occasion, VC AIOU, Dr. Nasir Mahmood said that there is no substitute for calligraphy.

It is necessary to educate the new generation about this art and universities need to focus on promoting arts. Dr. Nasir appreciated Khalid Javed and said that such an effort of a student for his teacher is commendable.

Dr. Moeen Nizami said that several authors have written autobiographies of Ghalib but the one written by Altaf Hussain Hali stood out among all, similarly, Khalid Javed compiled the artwork of Hafiz Yusuf tremendously and left a masterpiece for upcoming generations. He added that calligraphy is engineering, and mastery of all arts is necessary.

In various Islamic states, calligraphy has official patronage, same is needed in Pakistan in the field of arts to encourage youth. Dr Abdul Aziz Sahir also applauded the services of Hafiz Yusuf Sadeedi.

Moreover, a seminar on ‘Sufi Music in South Asia’ was also organized by the Department of History, AIOU. The Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir presided over the seminar while the Dean of Faculty of Oriental Learning, Punjab University, Prof. Dr. Moeen Uddin Nizami was the chief guest.
