Mansehra: Mansehra Police have dismantled a vehicle theft gang and recovered 17 stolen vehicles, including a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, a Suzuki Ravi pickup, a Suzuki FX car, and 14 motorcycles, in a series of successful operations carried out across the district.

According to police, a number of car and motorcycle theft incidents had been reported in different parts of Mansehra over the past few months, leading to the registration of multiple cases at various police stations. Acting on the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Azhar Khan, special teams launched intelligence-based investigations to trace those involved.

The operations were conducted under the supervision of SP City Shah Nawaz Khan and DSP City Cadet Chin Zeb Tanoli. SHO City Cadet Saqib, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell, and other police teams used modern investigative techniques and intelligence information to identify and arrest the suspects.

Police recovered a stolen Suzuki Ravi pickup from suspect Ghulam Abbas. In another case, 14 stolen motorcycles were recovered from suspects Ali, Abbas, Muhammad Abbas, and Mubarak. A stolen Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was recovered from suspect Sardar Asif while a stolen Suzuki FX car was recovered from suspect Shah Zaib.

Police said Shah Zaib and Ghulam Abbas have been sent to jail following court orders, while the remaining suspects will be produced before the court to obtain physical remand. Further investigation is underway to determine the gang’s involvement in other vehicle theft cases.

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani on Tuesday directed all relevant departments to maintain a high state of alert and execute comprehensive emergency management plans to safeguard human life and property ahead of the monsoon season.

He issued these directives while presiding over a high-level monsoon review meeting.

“Protecting human life and public infrastructure during the monsoon rains remains our topmost priority,” commissioner said, emphasizing that all state institutions must operate under a seamless command and coordination system. He instructed that district control rooms, emergency helplines and field monitoring networks must remain operational round-the-clock.

During the meeting, all district administrations briefed the commissioner on their emergency preparedness, mapping of vulnerable low-lying areas, and machinery deployment plans.

The commissioner ordered targeted field operations against illegal encroachments along Nullah Lai and other natural waterways to prevent drainage blockages and urban flooding.

Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and local municipal bodies were directed to keep heavy machinery, de-watering pumps, rescue boats, ambulances, and emergency supplies fully functional. The Commissioner also ordered regular mock exercises to test institutional response capabilities.

Reviewing water storage capacity across regional reservoirs, the commissioner instructed authorities to continuously monitor dam water levels and issue timely public warnings before releasing spillway discharges. He also directed private housing societies, including DHA, Bahria Town, and developments along the Soan River, to install early warning systems and integrate their response plans with the district administration.

Addressing specific arrangements for Murree, the commissioner instructed local authorities to keep heavy earth-moving machinery, alternative traffic routing plans, and landslide emergency units functional at all times to assist tourists and residents.

Additionally, the Livestock Department was ordered to ensure the safe evacuation, fodder supply, and vaccination of livestock in flood-prone areas.

The meeting was attended via video link by all DCs of the division. Senior officials from Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, the Livestock Department and regional development authorities were also present during the meeting.

Hyderabad: University of Sindh has reaffirmed its commitment to ensure a smooth and student-friendly reopening of the campus after the summer vacation, with a strong emphasis on academic discipline, quality teaching and enhanced student support across all departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

According to the SU spokesperson Dr. Nadir Ali Mugheri, the roadmap was finalized at a meeting of the heads of departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Mari (TI) at the concerned dean office here on Tuesday.

The meeting reviewed preparations for the commencement of the new academic session and resolved that regular classes would begin from the very first day after the summer break without any delay. The participants agreed that every possible facility would be extended to students to ensure a productive and uninterrupted learning environment from the outset of the second semester.

Addressing the meeting, Dr Mari directed all heads of departments to make comprehensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of academic activities and ensure that teaching schedules were implemented strictly in accordance with the academic calendar.

He stressed that faculty members should remain available in their offices until the close of official working hours every day so that students could receive academic guidance, mentoring and counseling whenever required. He said a teacher’s role extended beyond classroom instruction and included continuous support for students’ academic and professional development.

He called upon academic leaders to identify departmental requirements well in advance and ensure the availability of laboratories, classrooms, teaching equipment and other academic resources before the reopening of the university. He further directed departments to strengthen student-teacher engagement and maintain close coordination with the university administration to resolve academic issues promptly.

Hyderabad: Government Girls Degree College Qasimabad Hyderabad would organize a series of multiple events starting from August 1 to commemorate the Independence Day in a befitting manner.

The Principal of College, Husna Qadri informed here on Tuesday that the events would start from August 1 and continue till 14th August in the premises of College.

The events included Poster, Art and Painting Exhibition, speech and debate competition, Cultural Programmes, Quiz Competition and tree plantation while the main event of flag hoisting ceremony and other major activities would be held on August 14.

Mirpur: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has revised the schedule for the Legislative Assembly elections, announcing that polling will now be held in three phases to strengthen security arrangements and ensure the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (R) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal on Tuesday announced the revised schedule at a press conference at the Election Commission headquarters in Mirpur. Senior Member Election Commission Khawaja Muhammad Ahsan, Member Election Commission Syed Nazir-ul-Hassan Gilani and Secretary Election Commission Raja Muhammad Shakeel Khan were also present.

Under the revised programme, polling in Mirpur Division will be held on July 27 as originally scheduled. The second phase will take place on August 2 in Muzaffarabad Division, while polling for the 12 seats reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees residing in Pakistan will also be conducted on the same day. The third and final phase of polling in Poonch Division will be held on August 10.

Justice Mughal said the decision to revise the schedule was taken after consultations with political parties. He said the phased polling plan would help strengthen security arrangements, as security forces engaged in other parts of the country could be deployed from one division to another during the election process.

He reiterated the Election Commission’s commitment to holding free, fair, transparent, impartial and peaceful elections. He said international observers and journalists would be given full access to cover the polls, while presiding officers would provide polling results to polling agents immediately after the completion of vote counting.

Responding to a question, the chief election commissioner said around 25,000 government employees had exercised their right to vote peacefully during polling held the previous day. He expressed confidence that voters would participate actively in the remaining phases and said the Election Commission had completed all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth and orderly polling.

Abbottabad: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jahan on Tuesday announced a province-wide crackdown on drug dealers and smugglers, directing the excise department and police to conduct joint operations to curb narcotics trafficking.

Addressing an open public forum in Abbottabad, he said dedicated squads from both departments would carry out raids and warned that those involved in the drug trade would not be spared.

The minister said Abbottabad had been included in the Safe City Project and work on the initiative would begin soon. Responding to public complaints, he assured citizens that visible improvements would be seen within a month and said he would write to the Registrar of the High Court over concerns regarding the early release of arrested drug traffickers.

He also warned that any Excise official found involved in corruption or illegal activities would be dismissed from service and prosecuted.

The open public forum was attended by Secretary Excise Khalid Ilyas, Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram, DPO Haroon-ur-Rashid, Director General Excise Abdul Haleem Khan, members of the business community, real estate representatives, local leaders and citizens, who called for stricter action against drug dealers and the early implementation of the Safe City Project in Abbottabad.
