Sargodha: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Friday arrested a patwari for allegedly accepting a Rs.400, 000 bribe from a citizen to process an inheritance transfer, officials said.

According to ACE officials, the accused, identified as Zafar was serving as a patwari in Chak Kooray Wala when he allegedly demanded and received Rs.400, 000 from Hameed Ullah for transferring inherited property in the official land record.

Acting on a complaint filed by the citizen, an ACE team under the supervision of Deputy Director(DD), Ameer Abdullah Khan conducted a raid and arrested the suspect.

A case has been registered against the accused while further investigation was underway.

Peshawar: The final phase of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Summer Learning and Grooming Festival 2026 will begin on July 25 in Abbottabad and Mansehra, with around 2, 000 students from across the province set to participate in a wide range of educational, leadership and co-curricular activities.

The decision was made at a high-level review meeting chaired by Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Khalid to finalize arrangements for the fourth and final phase of the festival, said a press release.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Secretary (General), commissioners and deputy commissioners of the relevant divisions, chairmen of all Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, education department directors, district education officers and other senior officials.

Participants reviewed arrangements for student transportation, accommodation, meals, security, medical facilities, co-curricular activities and overall event management.

The forum was briefed on the outcomes of the festival’s first phase and the implementation plan for the final phase, while a presentation was also given on branding, media outreach, social media coverage and the public awareness campaign.

Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Khalid directed officials to accord top priority to the safety and security of students.

He stressed the need to ensure quality travel arrangements, accommodation, food, healthcare, sanitation and discipline to provide participants with a safe and conducive learning environment.

He also instructed all relevant departments to maintain close coordination for the successful conduct of the festival and directed that a special IT Boot Camp be organized during the final phase to introduce students to digital skills, artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies and other modern technological developments.

The five-day event, scheduled from July 25 to 29, will offer students opportunities to participate in debates, art and craft, sketching, sports, leadership training, team-building exercises, plantation drives, hiking, creative activities, the IT Boot Camp and other educational and extracurricular programmes.

The meeting expressed satisfaction that lessons learned from the successful first phase had been incorporated into the final phase, resulting in improved planning and better facilities for participants.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Department reaffirmed its commitment to making the Summer Learning and Grooming Festival 2026 a landmark initiative for promoting the academic, creative, physical and leadership potential of the province’s youth under the vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, the leadership of Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Arshad Ayub Khan, and the supervision of Secretary Education Muhammad Khalid.

Kohat: Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz, Additional Assistant Commissioner Gambat Syed Mukhtiar Shah conducted inspections in Gambat Bazaar on Friday to enforce official price lists and monitor the sale of essential commodities. Vegetable, fruit and grocery shops were inspected, while traders found overcharging customers were fined and warned against future violations.

In a separate visit, the additional assistant commissioner inspected the Rural Health Center (RHC) Gambat, reviewing staff attendance, medicine stocks, official records and overall administrative arrangements to ensure the facility was functioning efficiently.

He also visited the office of the Assistant Director Local Government in Gambat, where sanitation and water supply shortcomings were identified. Officials were directed to address the deficiencies without delay and improve the overall working environment of the office.

The inspections were part of the district administration’s ongoing efforts to enforce government regulations, improve public service delivery and ensure better civic and administrative standards across the district.

Gujrat: Head Qadirabad on the Chenab River continued to experience high flood on Friday, while water flow at Head Marala and Head Khanki remained at the medium flood level, according to official figures.

Officials said that Head Qadirabad recorded an upstream inflow of 234, 271 cusecs and a downstream outflow of 219, 271 cusecs. At Head Marala, the upstream inflow stood at 189, 126 cusecs while the downstream discharge was recorded at 175, 426 cusecs.

Head Khanki received an upstream inflow of 203, 374 cusecs and released 198, 444 cusecs downstream with both barrages remaining at medium flood level.

Meanwhile, Mangla Dam on the Jhelum River remained within the normal operating range.

The reservoir level was recorded at 1, 185.70 feet with an inflow of 60, 001 cusecs and an outflow of 10, 000 cusecs.

The flow in Bhimbar Nullah also remained normal at 1, 874 cusecs while Munawar Tavi recorded a discharge of 7, 547 cusecs.

The latest readings come as authorities continue to monitor river flows amid the ongoing monsoon spell.

Faisalabad: City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain said that the police have finalized a comprehensive security plan for Chehlum observances by deploying more than 1, 100 police officers and personnel to secure religious gatherings and mourning processions.

During a meeting, he directed police officers to ensure foolproof security for the Chehlum procession and gatherings at Imambargah Haideria, Aminpur Bazaar in addition to strict implementation of comprehensive security and administrative measures.

He said that Chehlum congregations (Majalis) would be held at Imambargah Haideria while the main procession would emerge from the Imambargah and culminate at the Central Imambargah after passing through its designated route.

Under the security plan, more than 1, 100 police officers and personnel would perform security duties across the district including one SP, four DSPs, 17 Inspectors, 43 Sub Inspectors, 94 Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASIs), 73 Head Constables and 956 Constables and Lady Constables, he added.

He said that police officers and personnel would remain deployed at Majalis venues along the procession route at Imambargahs and designated pickets while Elite Force and Dolphin Force teams would conduct continuous patrolling to maintain vigilance and ensure an immediate response to any emergency.

He said that CCTV cameras would be used for real-time monitoring while additional police personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations to further strengthen security arrangements.

He directed officers to maintain close coordination with all law enforcement agencies to ensure effective security management throughout the Chehlum observances.

All available resources are being utilized to maintain peace, protect participants and preserve law and order across the city, he added.

Sargodha: Police arrested 26 suspects, including nine proclaimed offenders(POs), during a crackdown across the district, officials said on Friday. According to police, teams from various police stations conducted raids at different locations over the past 24 hours and apprehended the accused involved in various criminal cases.

The arrested suspects were identified as Aslam, Nouman, Sultan, Shamus, Shamsahir, Saqib, Hassan, Mehmood, Tipu, Taimoor, Majeed, Sarwar, Saqlain, Sibtain Khan and Anjum among others.

Police said the suspects were wanted in connection with serious offenses, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, dacoity, cattle theft and motorcycle theft cases.

A police spokesperson said stolen motorcycles, cattle, narcotics including heroin, opium, hashish and ice, as well as illegal weapons were recovered from the possession of the arrested suspects.

Cases have been registered against the accused while further investigations was underway.
