Motorcyclist killed
Lahore: A motorcyclist was killed when a speeding tractor trolley hit and ran over him near Noor Road Nizami Hospital, Khokhar Road. According to rescue officials, the victim was identified as 16-year-old Anwar Nazir. Police concerned launched investigation.
CM pays tribute to Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to Nishan-i-Haider recipient Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary. She said his unmatched courage, steadfastness and supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland would forever remain a source of inspiration for the nation. In a message issued on the occasion, the chief minister said Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed thwarted the enemy’s nefarious designs despite sustaining severe injuries, displaying extraordinary bravery and unwavering commitment to the country’s defence.
She said the valiant soldier set the highest example of courage, resilience and patriotism, adding that Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed was a national hero whose memory would always live in the hearts of people. CM Maryam Nawaz said the martyrs who laid down their lives for the security and sovereignty of the motherland were the pride, honour and true defenders of the nation. She added that the sacrifices rendered by the country’s brave soldiers could never be repaid and would always be remembered with profound respect and gratitude. The CM said that the nation salutes its martyrs and remains committed to honouring their unparalleled sacrifices for the defence and dignity of Pakistan.
Light rain turns weather pleasant
Lahore: Rain varying from light to drizzle in the provincial capital brought a pleasant change to the weather on Friday with the Met office forecasting no more shower in coming days while temperature was expected to rise.
The first spell of rain started at 05: 26 a.m and ended by 06: 30 a.m followed by a second spell from 07: 33 a.m. to 10: 55 a.m. with varying intensities of light to drizzle throughout the city.
The maximum rainfall was recorded at the Airport with 06 mm,while other areas of the city also experienced light rain,including Jail Road with 4.2 mm,Gulberg with 2.5 mm,Laxhmi Chowk with 4.5 mm,Upper Mall with 4 mm, Mughalpura with 1 mm, Tajpura with 2 mm,Chowk Nakhuda with 2 mm,Pani Wala Talab with 2.5 mm,Farrukhabad with 2 mm,Gulshan-e-Ravi with 5 mm,Iqbal Town with 1 mm,Samanabad with 4 mm,JoharTown with 3.5 mm and Qartaba Chowk with 2.5 mm.
City district government personnel were actively involved in drainage operations during and after the rain.
Officials also visited low-lying areas to monitor and manage the situation.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly hot and dry weather over most parts of the country including the city during next 48 hours.
Pakistan shining like a bright star on globe: Azma Bokhari
Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that the separate homeland pledged on March 23, 1940, is now shining like a bright star on the world map.
In her message on the occasion of the 85th Pakistan Day, observed on Sunday, she emphasised that the Muslim League created Pakistan, and it is the Muslim League that is shaping it. Under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, she said, the Pakistan envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal is achieving milestones in development.
'Pakistan Day represents a new vision, new determination, and renewed passion. March 23 reminds us of our identity as a unique and great nation,' she added.
Highlighting Pakistan's strength, she stated that Pakistan is the only nuclear power in the Islamic world, holding a distinct and unparalleled identity. She affirmed that Pakistan was created to progress, and it will continue to do so. Despite internal and external conspiracies, the nation is moving towards prosperity.
Azma Bokhari also paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their invaluable services in ensuring national security and defense. She acknowledged the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland, calling them the pride of the nation.
'Our martyrs and veterans are our true heroes, and the entire nation takes immense pride in their sacrifices,' she concluded.
Pakistan Day was marked by ceremonies, parades, and events across the country, celebrating the spirit of the Pakistan Resolution and reaffirming commitment to national unity and progress.
No force can break a determined nation : Commissioner
Lahore: Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood has paid glowing tribute to the historic Pakistan Resolution of March 23, 1940, emphasizing its significance as a landmark event in the country's history.
In his special message on Pakistan Day, he highlighted the unwavering commitment of the nation's forefathers that led to the creation of Pakistan within just seven years under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Commissioner Lahore stated, 'March 23, 1940, was a day of firm resolve. With sincerity and determination, our visionary leader and an aware, dedicated nation turned the dream of Pakistan into reality. No force can break the spirit of a determined people, and when courage and perseverance remain high, the goal is always achieved.'
He further underscored the sacrifices made by the forefathers of the nation in achieving independence. 'Our ancestors gave countless sacrifices for this homeland. Now, it is our responsibility to protect and develop Pakistan,' he asserted.
