Lahore: The Qiraat and Naat Society of the University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences Lahore arranged walk and seminar to mark Yom-e-Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Peace Be Upon Him in befitting manners here at City Campus Lahore.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) led the walk in the city campus while deans, director chairman/chairpersons and a large number of students from different departments, faculty members and administrative staff participated in the walk.

Later in the seminar, Prof Dr Muhammad Arshad Naqshbandi from Islamia Collage Railway Road was the guest speaker and said safeguarding the honour of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is not just a duty for every Muslim but a sacred trust that we uphold with absolute conviction.

Lahore: A photo walk was held at Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Wednesday to shed light on the history of Palestine and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Organised in collaboration with the Palestine Society and Friends of Palestine, the event aimed to raise awareness among students and express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Babar Aziz, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, alongside Prof. Dr. Fauzia Ghani, Chairperson of the Political Science Department. Also present were Ahmed Raza Khan, Incharge of the International Relations Department, and Shahzad Ahmed, Controller of Examinations.

Speaking at the event, Palestine Society Advisor Muhammad Manzoor Elahi underscored the importance of educating students about Palestine's historical context. He emphasized that such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering awareness and critical thinking. He added that the exhibition was carefully curated to present an objective and factual account of Palestinian history and the ongoing conflict.

Lahore: An anti-corruption court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of the Punjab Assembly illegal recruitment case until April 9.

Duty Judge Muhammad Faisal Ahmad presided over the session, during which co-accused Muhammad Khan Bhatti and others appeared and marked their attendance.

During the proceedings, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi's counsel submitted an exemption application, requesting a one-day exemption from personal appearance due to his client's health condition. The counsel informed the court that doctors had restricted Elahi from walking.

Accepting the request, the court granted Elahi's exemption and adjourned the hearing.

The indictment in the case has faced repeated delays due to Elahi's continued absences on medical grounds.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab has accused the former chief minister of making illegal appointments and accepting bribes to manipulate the recruitment process. According to ACE, qualified candidates were overlooked in favor of unqualified individuals who had not even taken the required exams.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of an assault on homeless women in Sargodha, emphasizing that any form of violence against women and children is unacceptable.

The CM said, 'Women and children are my red line. Any act of violence, at any level, is intolerable. The safety and dignity of women traveling in public transport will be ensured under all circumstances.'

The incident took place in Jhawarian, Sargodha, where a bus driver and conductor attacked homeless women during a dispute over fare. A viral video on social media showed the helpless women crying for help as they were mercilessly beaten.

Following CM Maryam Nawaz's directives, Jhawarian Police, under the supervision of DPO Sargodha Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf, took immediate action and arrested the accused, bus driver Shaukat and conductor Shamsher. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them.

The CM has ordered strict measures to prevent violence against women in public transport and announced that a dedicated bus service for rural women will soon be launched to provide a safe and respectful travel experience.

Lahore: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has expanded the scope of the Free Wi-Fi service in Lahore by increasing the number of locations from 200 to 230.

Additionally, the Free Wi-Fi service in Lahore has been upgraded to the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology.

According to the details, the enhanced Wi-Fi 6 technology will provide users with faster internet speeds.Punjab Safe Cities Authority is currently providing free Wi-Fi services at 300 locations across 11 districts of the province, including Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree. free Wi-Fi service will soon be extended throughout Punjab. So far, more than 17.70 million users have utilized 438 TB of data, demonstrating the public's significant interest in benefiting from this facility. The spokesperson advised citizens to make use of this free Wi-Fi service to simplify their daily lives.

However, it is emphasized that this service is intended for emergency purposes only and cannot be used for video streaming or entertainment. The spokesperson further stated that, under the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, efforts are underway to make Punjab a digital province, ensuring the use of cutting-edge technology in this regard.

Lahore: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has intensified its efforts to provide a clean environment for citizens during Ramazan.

Under its special cleanliness plan, the LWMC cleaning operational teams have successfully completed the washing and cleaning of 1,500 mosques before the last 'Ashra' [ten days] of the holy month. Under the directives of LWMC Chief Executive Officer Babar Sahib Din, special cleaning teams have been deployed at major Namaz-e-Taraweeh location, Jamia mosques, and main routes in all towns. Additionally, more than 100 workers have been assigned cleaning duties at 16 Ramazan Sahulat Bazars and low price Sugar Centres, set up by the district administration.

To facilitate the public, over 50 containers and 43 waste bins have been installed around the Ramadan Sahulat Bazars. More than 100 workers are assigned to manage cleanliness in these markets during both morning and evening shifts.

As in previous years, the cleanliness of more than 45 major Iftar dastar khwans set up across the city is being ensured. Furthermore, the cleaning process has begun at the 250 small and large graveyards throughout Lahore. Complaints related to the Ramazan Sahulat Bazaars are being addressed promptly, and the public is encouraged to contact the helpline at 1139 for any cleanliness-related issues.
