Lahore: Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah has been penalised for breaching ICC Code of Conduct during the first of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

Khushdil Shah has been penalised 50% of his match fee for a Level 2 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct, said ICC prese release on Monday.

The incident occurred during the first T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan in Christchurch on 16th March (Sunday).

Khushdil was found in violation of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘inappropriate physical contact with a player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match).’

The incident happened during the 8th over of Pakistan’s innings when Khushdil barged into the back of bowler Zakary Foulkes. The act was classified as ‘inappropriate physical contact with a high degree of force’ and was deemed ‘reckless, negligent.’

Khushdil accepted the sanctions levelled by the umpires and Match Referee Jeff Crowe, as a result of which there was no need for a formal hearing.

Along with the fine, three demerit points have been added to Khushdil’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

If four or more demerit points are accumulated within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points. Two suspension points result in a ban from either one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.

Pakistan lost the first T20I by 9 wickets after they crumbled to 91-10.

Lahore: Punjab Model Bazaar Management Company (PMBMC) Chairman Malik Afzal Khokhar, along with Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, chaired a meeting to review the establishment of new carts bazaars in the provincial capital.

The meeting was attended by Market Operation Representatives (MORs), all Assistant Commissioners, and other relevant officials.

During the session, the attendees were briefed on the proposed locations for the model cart bazaars, which aim to regulate street vending and curb encroachments.

After a detailed review, 14 locations were shortlisted, including Shahdara, GT Road, Manga Mandi, Shadman, Multan Road, and Gulshan Ravi. Additional locations such as Bedian Road, Sky Land Road, Canal Road, and Marhaba Chowk were also included. Other proposed sites are Kotha Pind Flats, Civil Center Mustafa Town, Azam Garden, LDA Avenue One, Johar Town G-1 Market, and Wetman Road Singh Pura.

Malik Afzal Khokhar emphasized that the initiative will help eliminate encroachments and improve traffic flow while providing organized spaces for vendors.

DC Syed Musa Raza said that the selection of these locations was based on strategic planning to ensure smooth urban mobility and a better shopping experience for citizens.

Lahore: In a major crackdown against reckless driving, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) took action against 54 drivers for exceeding speed limits on various motorways in the Central Region. The operation aimed to enhance road safety and curb life-threatening speeding incidents.

According to the NHMP spokesperson, the special campaign was conducted on M-2, M-3, M-4, M-5, and the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway. Several FIRs were registered against offenders caught exceeding 150 km/h, and multiple arrests were made.

Lahore-Sialkot Motorway: 4 cases were registered, Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2): 19 FIRs were filed, Lahore-Multan Motorway (M-3): 5 cases were registered ,Multan-Pindi Bhattian Motorway (M-4): 6 FIRs were filed and Sukkur-Multan Motorway (M-5): 20 drivers were arrested.

The NHMP reiterated that the speed limit for three-lane motorways is 120 km/h for private vehicles and 110 km/h for public transport. Violations of these limits pose a severe risk to public safety.

“Ensuring safe travel on national highways is our top priority,” said the spokesperson , emphasizing the department’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws strictly.

Authorities have warned motorists against speeding and urged compliance with traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure safer journeys for all road users.

Lahore: President Asif Ali Zardari watched the final of the 62nd National Open Polo Championship as the chief guest and presented the trophy to the winning team, DS Polo, at Lahore Polo Club on Sunday.

Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider Khan, Bank Alfalah Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Atif Bajwa, Lahore Polo Club President Malik Azam Hayat Noon, executive committee members, and a large crowd of polo enthusiasts witnessed an exhilarating final of the championship.

In a thrilling contest, DS Polo edged past FG Polo 7-6 in the closing moments of the match. FG Polo dominated for four and a half chukkers, but DS Polo turned the game around with two decisive goals in the final minutes to claim the Bank Alfalah National Open Championship trophy.

For DS Polo, Lao Abelenda led the charge with four goals, Max Will Charlton added two, and Daniyal Sheikh struck the winning goal. FG Polo’s Raul Laplacette delivered an impressive performance with five goals, while Mian Abbas Mukhtar contributed one.

President Zardari gave away awards in various categories: the Best Pakistani Polo Player Award was given to Hamza Mawaz Khan, while the Most Important Player Award went to Mian Abbas Mukhtar.

In the 0-4 goal category, the Best Player Award was given to Raja Samiullah, and the Most Improved Player Award to Muhammad Ali Malik; in the -2 to 0 goal category, the award was clinched by Abdullah Khattak, and in the 0-2 goal category, Chaudhry Hayat Mahmood was honoured. In the 2-4 goal category, Raja Mikael Sami received the Best Player Award, Ibrahim Sultan was recognised with the Emerging Talent Award, and the Lady Player Award was given to Manam Faisal.

The Spirit of Polo Award went to Faisal Khan, the Most Valuable Pakistani Player Award to Ahmed Ali Tiwana, while the Best Foreign Player Award was presented to Max Charlton. The Syed Wajid Ali Trophy went to Daniyal Sheikh’s mare Anatolia.

Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) on Sunday hosted an exclusive heritage tour, providing participants with a rare chance to visit five recently restored historic sites in Lahore.

The event aimed to highlight the ongoing and completed conservation work by WCLA to preserve the city’s rich cultural heritage, said a press release issued here.

The tour started from Tollinton Market, where approximately 60 history enthusiasts, heritage professionals and culture aficionados gathered. The journey then continued to General Allard’s Tomb, a notable relic of Lahore’s colonial era, followed by a visit to Bradlaugh Hall, a site closely linked to the city’s political and intellectual history.

Participants then explored the Tomb of Anarkali, a historical and architectural gem steeped in legend.

The tour concluded at the stunning Wazir Khan Baradari, where an Iftaar dinner was hosted for the attendees, offering them a chance to reflect on the significance of these restored heritage sites.

WCLA DG Kamran Lashari also participated in the tour and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in encouraging public engagement with Lahore’s historical landmarks.

The event successfully brought together people from diverse backgrounds, fostering a collective appreciation for Lahore’s architectural and cultural heritage.

Lahore: The thirty-fifth death anniversary of renowned actor and broadcaster SM Saleem was observed on Sunday.

He was born in Delhi on August 18, 1929. He started his career with All India Radio and after the creation of Pakistan, he got associated with Radio Pakistan, Lahore and Karachi#CT#Karachi/CT#.

Among his memorable dramas from Radio Pakistan, the name of Rustam and Sohrab was at the top. In this drama, the role of Rustam was played by ZA Bukhari and the role of Sohrab was played by SM Saleem. SM Saleem also worked in several dramas for Pakistan Television including ‘Manto Rama’.

In Manto Rama, he played the role of Saadat Hasan Manto.

He died on this day in 1990 in Houston, USA.
