Lahore: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat conducted a surprise visit to examination centres in Daska to inspect the examination process.

He checked the attendance and identification of staff as per the duty roster.

During the inspection, he suspended the superintendent of an examination centre at Government Graduate College, Daska, over a suspicious mobile chat related to candidate assistance and ordered an inquiry against him.

At another examination centre in Daska, the minister issued a warning to the superintendent for starting the exam late, stressing that strict action would be taken if exams were not conducted on time in the future.

Special squads are actively monitoring examination centres across all districts, with a particular focus on sensitive centres, said Hayat. He emphasised that no leniency would be shown to any staff member found negligent in their duties.

Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has doubled the journalist support fund from Rs. 50 million to Rs. 100 million.

Additionally, funds have been approved to support the wedding of 23 journalists' daughters and provide medical treatment to 63 journalists.

Azma Bukhari said that CM Maryam Nawaz is committed to protecting the rights of the journalist community and the issuance of the Himmat Card and Health Card would be completed soon to provide further facilities to journalists. The information minister reaffirmed that the Punjab government considered solving journalists' problems as its top priority.

A key meeting regarding the journalist support fund was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari. During the meeting, approval was granted for support funds for 85 journalists, while applications that could not be accommodated due to a shortage of funds would be included in the next quarter.

The meeting was attended by Additional Information Secretary Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, Deputy Secretary Finance Rafia Qayyum, DGPR Ghulam Saghir Shahid, President of Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, and other senior officials.

Lahore: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore Zone intensified its crackdown on human trafficking, arresting three suspects, including a notorious fugitive, in raids conducted in Lahore and Sialkot.According to FIA spokesperson, the arrested suspects were identified as Qamar-ul-Zaman, Muhammad Anwar and Waseem Akram. They were involved in visa fraud and deceiving innocent citizens by promising to send them abroad.Qamar-ul-Zaman, a notorious human trafficker, had been wanted since 2023 by the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Lahore. He attempted to send a citizen, Sufyan to Greece using fake documents,whereas Muhammad Anwar swindled Rs 700,000 from a citizen under the false promise of sending him to Cambodia. Accused Waseem Akram took Rs 900,000 from another victim, claiming to arrange travel to Dubai.The spokesperson revealed that the suspects collected large sums of money from victims but failed to deliver on their promises, ultimately going into hiding.FIA Lahore Zone Director Sarfaraz Khan Virk sa id that the crackdown against human traffickers was in full swing and operations against human trafficking networks were further intensified."We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking. The arrested traffickers will face strict legal action and we will eradicate international human trafficking networks from their roots,' added Virk.

Lahore: A delegation of the Law Reforms Committee met Prosecutor General Punjab, Syed Farhad Ali Shah to discuss amendments to existing laws in line with modern requirements.

The delegation included SSP CTD Syed Hasnain Haider, Additional Commissioner Atiqa Rehman, Deputy Secretary Zafar Iqbal, Special Secretary Heritage Ejaz Khaliq, and Secretary Agri-Commission Afzal Ahmed.

During the meeting, several key proposals were discussed, including providing immediate legal assistance to both the police and the affected person after the registration of an FIR, issuing medico-legal documents from the Police Service Center within 24 hours, amending rules to set a specific time-frame for declaring medical reports and formulating Crime Scene Protection Rules.

The Prosecutor General Punjab requested further input from all stakeholders to refine these proposals.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Farhad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of independent and autonomous institutions in ensuring justice. He highlighted that all departments are actively working in line with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz's vision to improve the justice system.

The meeting concluded with a consensus on the need for legal reforms to enhance efficiency and public service delivery.

Lahore: The Punjab University (PU) administration has rusticated five students for one academic year and suspended two others for 14 days over disciplinary violations.

According to a PU spokesperson, the university's disciplinary committee rusticated Muhammad Rehan Ali Waheed, Muhammad Ali, Jawad Zahoor, Salman Arshad and Muhammad Mubashir Akhtar for their involvement in riots and quarrels on campus. Additionally, Muhammad Danish Arshad and Muhammad Anas Ramzan were suspended for 14 days and directed to submit affidavits to the dean concerned. Upon reinstatement, they will be placed on a six-month probation period.
