DS jail suspended over Kot Lakhpat prisoner’s death

Lahore: The Punjab Home Department on Friday suspended deputy superintendent (executive) over alleged negligence, incompetence and violation of rules in connection with the death of a prisoner at Kot Lakhpat Jail.



According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, Kamran Maqbool, serving as DS executive at Central Jail Lahore, was suspended on the basis of allegations of negligence, dereliction of duty and misconduct.



The spokesperson said six other jail officials, including an assistant superintendent, had already been suspended on the basis of the initial inquiry report into the incident.



The Home Department also issued orders for several postings and transfers in the Punjab Prisons Department.



According to the orders, Fazal Elahi was posted as Deputy Superintendent Executive, Central Jail Lahore, while Hafiz Muhammad Rizwan was appointed Deputy Superintendent Executive, District Jail Jhang.



Similarly, Asif Murtaza was posted as Deputy Superintendent Executive, Central Jail Faisalabad, while Shahzad Ahmed, Deputy Superintendent Executive, Central Jail Dera Ghazi Khan, was directed to report to the Inspectorate of Prisons Punjab.



The spokesperson said the Punjab Home Department had issued rules and regulations for the administration and management of all jails across the province.



The department was pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against negligence, mismanagement and violation of rules, the spokesperson added.
