Lahore: Punjab University Institute of Polymer and Textile Engineering (IPTE) has entered into

agreements with Marjan Polymer Industries, Lahore, Pakistan, for the establishment

of a joint laboratory focused on coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, and paints

(CASEP) technologies.

The signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) took place at the

PU VC's office committee room here on Monday.

Attendees included PU VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Director of IPTE Dr. Shahzad Maqsood

Khan, CEO of Marjan Polymer Industries Dr. Muhammad Abid, Director of External Linkages

Dr Yaamina Salman, and others.

The MoU aims to strengthen academic-industry linkages, support local industry growth,

and provide employment opportunities for students.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized that fostering relationships with

industries was a top priority for the university. He highlighted that the establishment of

CASEP laboratory would create a cutting-edge facility at the Institute of Polymer and

Textile Engineering. The lab would meet industry standards for advanced coating technologies,

improving market competitiveness. Dr Ali further noted that the MoU would enhance employment

opportunities for PU students.

Dr Abid also mentioned that Marjan Polymer Industries would offer internships and

job opportunities to PU students.

Lahore: The Punjab Home Department has launched an awareness campaign to warn citizens against fraudsters.

As part of this initiative, the department has issued important guidelines to protect people from scams through social media. The department has advised citizens not to share any information with unknown individuals on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. They should not send money or share any codes in response to calls or messages from unknown numbers. Additionally, citizens should avoid sharing codes or account details for purchasing non-customs-paid items and should never transfer money in response to fake kidnapping calls.

The spokesperson for the department warned that citizens should be cautious of calls from women seeking friendship, as this could be a "honey trap". The department has also instructed citizens not to disclose their official, personal or family-related information to strangers and avoid clicking on any suspicious or unknown links on the internet.

In case of any suspicious activity or fraud, citizens are urged to report immediately to emergency helpline 15. According to the spokesperson, the home department advises all citizens to use social media and digital platforms responsibly to protect themselves from various types of fraud.

Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Monday sealed another 90 properties during its ongoing daily operation against illegal commercial buildings across the city. As part of the crackdown, 90 properties were sealed in different areas, including Gulberg, Faisal Town, Shadman, Shah Jamal, Gulshan Ravi, Shadbagh, and Sabzazar. In Gulberg and Faisal Town, LDA teams sealed 27 properties due to illegal commercial use and non-payment of commercial fees.During the recovery operation in Sabzazar, 33 properties were sealed while in Shadman, Shah Jamal, Gulshan Ravi, and Shadbagh, another 30 properties were sealed.The sealed properties include private schools, restaurants, workshops, food points, shops, and offices.The operation was conducted under the supervision of Chief Town Planner Asad Uz Zaman. According to DG LDA, the crackdown on illegal commercial properties and defaulters of commercial fees will continue without any discrimination.

Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday framed amended charges against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and party workers in three cases related to the torching of police vehicles near Mughalpura and Jinnah House during the May 9 violence.

ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill conducted the proceedings at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where incarcerated PTI leaders, including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Senator Ijaz Chaudhry, were produced before the court. PTI social media activist Sanam Javed and other accused individuals, who are currently out on bail, also appeared and marked their attendance.

During the hearing, the court formally framed amended charges against the PTI leaders and workers. However, all the accused denied the charges and expressed their intent to contest them.

Following the proceedings, the court summoned prosecution witnesses to record their testimony at the next hearing, scheduled for March 6.

It is noteworthy that the court had approved the prosecution's request to frame the amended charges against the PTI leaders and workers in these cases two weeks ago.

Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a new laptop scheme for students, bringing great news for those pursuing higher education.

Under the initiative, 110,000 state-of-the-art 13 generation Core i7 laptops will be distributed among eligible students. The scheme is open to first and second-semester BS students in public sector institutions as well as for medical students, with a merit-based selection process. The online application portal is now live, and thousands of students have already registered within hours of its launch.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that the official link for online applications has been published and is available on the Punjab Higher Education Department's website with complete details. The minister also mentioned that the merit criteria for BS students has been set at 65%, while for medical students, it is 80%. This merit will be determined based on intermediate marks.

Hayat further revealed that within just a few hours of the portal going live, over 34,000 students have already registered.

Lahore: The Punjab Judicial Academy (PJA) has launched two simultaneous training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of judicial officers.

The first initiative, a two-week Performance Evaluation Training Program 2025, is designed for senior civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates and civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates. Meanwhile, the second program is a six-day specialized training course on "Revenue Documents Analysis and Inheritance Issues" for judges of the district judiciary.

The inaugural session was presided over by PJA Director General Justice (Retd.) Sardar Ahmad Naeem. The event was also attended by Hafeez Ullah Khan (Adviser and Director Admin), Mansoor Ahmad Khan (Director Program), Bushra Zaman (Director of Research), Irum Ayaz (Director of Training), and senior instructors Mahmood Azam, Ayesha Khalid, and Muhammad Khalid Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice (Retd.) Sardar Ahmad Naeem emphasized the importance of promotion training in equipping judges with leadership skills and preparing them for higher responsibilities. He also expressed optimism that the specialized training on the judicial analysis of revenue documents would enable judges to ensure the efficient administration of justice.

The 11th six-day training course on the judicial analysis of revenue documents is currently being attended by Civil Judges, Senior Civil Judges, and Additional Sessions Judges.
