Lahore: Medical Superintendent (MS) of Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) Dr. Muhammad Nadeem Akhtar has been removed from his post, while pharmacist Noman Ali dismissed from his job due to poor performance.

The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education issued a notification regarding their removal on Thursday. According to the notification, both officials were relieved of their duties based on unsatisfactory performance.

Lahore: The Punjab government has taken a decisive step to crackdown on organised begging networks by tightening laws against the notorious beggar mafia ringleaders. In a significant move, key amendments to the anti-beggary law have been introduced in the Punjab Assembly, making forced begging a non-bailable offense. A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said, the Punjab Assembly's Special Committee on Home Affairs would review key amendments to The Punjab Vagrancy Ordinance 1958. According to the proposed amendments, a ringleader forcing a single person to beg would face up to 3 years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 300,000, or both.In case of non-payment of fine, an additional 6-month imprisonment would be imposed. Similarly, a ringleader forcing multiple individuals to beg would face imprisonment from 3 to 5 years and a fine of up to 500,000 rupees, or both. A ringleader forcing children to beg would face 5 to 7 years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 700,000. Non-payment of the fine will result in an additional 1-year imprisonment. Anyone who forces a child or an adult into disability for the purpose of begging would be punished with 7 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 2 million.In case of non-payment of fine, the gang leader would have to face an additional 2-year imprisonment. The law clearly states that if a convicted person repeats the offense, they would face double the punishment and fine specified in the ordinance. The spokesperson said the government of Punjab had introduced the amendments to bring professional beggars and mafia chiefs to justice. The provincial cabinet had already approved the amendments to the anti-beggary law, he said and added that significant increase in punishments and fines aims to discourage the beggar mafia.

Lahore: Nine people were killed and 1,561 others injured in 1,380 road accidents in Punjab during the last 24 hours.

As many as 630 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 931 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams.

Furthermore, the analysis showed those 851 drivers, 52 underage drivers, 221 pedestrians, and 498 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 247 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 315 persons, placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 94 accidents and 107 victims, and at third Gujranwala with 81 accidents and 85 victims.

According to the data 1332 motorbikes, 70 auto-rickshaws, 179 motorcars, 24 vans, 11 passenger buses, 24 truck and 97 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in these road traffic accidents.

Lahore: In connection with the Horse and Cattle Show 2025, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) organized a Children's Festival at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Open Air Theater.

The festival offered special international superhero circus performances, rides for children, food stalls, and various recreational activities.

On the first day of the circus, both international and national performers showcased their unique acts, receiving great applause from the citizens. The outstanding performances by the artists were well appreciated by the spectators.

The Children's Festival will continue from 13th February to 23rd February. There will be two shows each day. The first show will be from 6: 00 PM to 8: 30 PM, and the second show will start at 8: 30 PM for the public to enjoy. Citizens expressed their joy, noting that circus artists take great risks for the entertainment of the audience, making the circus stand out from other sports. Children will now be able to watch performances they previously saw only in movies or on TV in person.
