Hong Kong celebrates surge of global enterprises driving investment and opportunities

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 26 June 2026 – More than 380 representatives of global enterprises joined a welcome reception yesterday (June 25) for 413 newly arrived or expanded overseas and Chinese Mainland companies in Hong Kong.

During the reception, Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), the government’s investment promotion agency, announced impressive results for the first half of 2026, revealing that these enterprises are expected to bring in over HK$53 billion (US$6.8 billion) in foreign direct investment and create over 8,600 new jobs for Hong Kong.

Hong Kong SAR’s Chief Executive, John Lee (second left); the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau (second right); the Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, Carol Yip (first left); and the Director-General of Investment Promotion, Alpha Lau (first right), toast the success of enterprises expanding in Hong Kong at Invest Hong Kong’s annual welcome reception.

Speaking at the reception, John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said Hong Kong is one of the best places in the world to do business, being ranked as the world’s freest economy by the Fraser Institute and the second most competitive economy according to the latest IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook.

“In choosing Hong Kong for your Asian and global business expansion, you share my belief in Hong Kong’s flourishing future,” Mr Lee said. “You have made a wise choice. Hong Kong is one of the world’s best economies to do business in and with.”

Under the “one country, two systems” principle, Hong Kong possesses the distinctive advantages of enjoying strong support from the country (China) and being closely connected to the world. The city offers an open and business-friendly environment, a simple and low tax regime, and a common law system that seamlessly connects with global financial centres.

Austria-based transport and logistics firm Gebrüder Weiss recently upgraded its Hong Kong office to become regional headquarters in East Asia and Oceania. Its Regional Director East Asia/Oceania, Michael Zankel, said of Hong Kong, “The business environment is great, you have a lot of talent around here to employ. It has always been the gateway to the Chinese Mainland but for us it is more a gateway to Asia.”

According to Merwann Younes, Global Head of Hospitality & Lifestyle Channels for Italian company Moleskine, Hong Kong is a “a very dynamic and creative city, which are also the core values for Moleskine as a brand.”

Etienne Dubois, Chief Strategy Officer, Unlimitics, which has developed an AI-powered school simulation game designed for neurodivergent children, said Hong Kong is a good place for start-up entrepreneurs like himself. “It is a very good melting pot for talent and opportunities and for growth,” he said.

Expanding on its first half results for 2026, InvestHK announced that its number of completed projects had increased 9% compared to the same period in 2025, while anticipated direct investment was up 36% and new jobs created rose 6% year-on-year.

In terms of place of origin of the 413 enterprises, 246 came from the Chinese Mainland, followed by Singapore (26), the United States (21), the United Kingdom (18), France (11) and Italy (11).

The top five sectors are innovation and technology (93), financial services and fintech (89), tourism and hospitality (55), transport, logistics and industrials (44), and business and professional services (39).

Looking ahead, Mr Lee said the HKSAR Government was expediting development of the Northern Metropolis, a new economic engine destined to rise as an international I&T and business hub.

“This will unlock abundant opportunities and shape a prosperous future for Hong Kong,” Mr Lee said, adding that the HKSAR Government is creating Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan, a strategic blueprint that will focus on long-term economic momentum, advancing technology and improving livelihoods.

Paddles up! Hong Kong marks 50 Years of international dragon boat thrills

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 25 June 2026 – With top teams from around the world gearing up for the hotly contested Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races this weekend (June 27-28), participants and spectators can expect a bumper programme of action, fun and entertainment along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui – one of the city’s most vibrant districts known for its iconic skyline views and tourist attractions.

There is much to celebrate. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races as well as 35th anniversary of both the co-organiser, Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, and the sanctioning body, International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF). The IDBF added to the occasion by announcing earlier this year the relocation of its headquarters back to Hong Kong.

Riding on the wave of excitement, the organiser, Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), extended the annual Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Festival period to 13 days (June 19 – July 1), beginning on the historic Tuen Ng Festival (Dragon Boat Festival) and concluding on July 1, which is the 29th anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

As the headline international flagship event of “Hong Kong Summer Fun”, Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the HKTB, said the Festival not only ran over a longer period, but also featured a stronger race line-up and more vibrant entertainment programmes than in previous years, offering an experience found only in Hong Kong for locals and visitors, while showcasing Hong Kong’s position as the Events Capital of Asia.

More than 220 teams from 16 countries and regions will compete for top honours in the world‑renowned setting of Victoria Harbour. This year’s event also introduces the special 50th Anniversary Fishermen Invitational Cup and the 50th Anniversary Championship, paying tribute to the traditional spirit of dragon boat racing.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a series of thematic activities along the Avenue of Stars, including a 22-metre traditional wooden dragon boat, a dragon boat-themed installation in collaboration with the new film Minions & Monsters, live music performances and a line-up of intangible cultural heritage performances, including martial art Wing Chun, Chinese juggling diabolo, traditional musical instruments ruan and guzheng.

Visitors can enjoy a series of thematic activities at the “Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Festival” which runs until July 1.

Highlighting Hong Kong’s reputation as the birthplace of modern international dragon boat racing, as well as its strengths as a global hub city, the IDBF has taken a significant step in its long‑term global strategy with the formal incorporation of International Dragon Boat Federation Limited in Hong Kong on 29 April 2026.

“Incorporation in Hong Kong is not a conclusion, but a beginning. It anchors our Federation in the city where our international story started and strengthens our ability to serve our members and the global dragon boat family,” said Claudio Schermi, President of the IDBF.

As part of this new chapter, the IDBF has applied for funding under “the Pilot Scheme to Strengthen the Presence of Hong Kong in Asian and International Sports Associations”, which was recently introduced by the HKSAR Government’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau. The Pilot Scheme is an initiative designed to support Asian and international sports associations establishing their headquarters or regional headquarters in the city.

The Dragon Boat Festival has a long and colourful history dating back more than two thousand years. Held each year on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, the day commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan.

According to legend, Qu committed suicide for his beliefs by throwing himself into the Luo River. The villagers nearby raced out on their dragon boats, banging gongs and drums to scare away fish and other underwater creatures to stop them from eating Qu’s body. The tradition continues to this day, with dragon boat competitions taking place at locations across Hong Kong, each reflecting the unique characteristics of its neighbourhood.

Traditional dragon boat treats feature prominently during the festival, notably zongzi. These glutinous rice dumplings, traditionally wrapped in bamboo leaves and steamed or boiled, are widely available during the festive period.

Riau Complex Sets a New Standard for Employee Living, Supporting Asia Pacific Rayon’s Workforce and Families

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 24 June 2026 – Asia Pacific Rayon’s (APR), a member of the RGE group of companies founded by Sukanto Tanoto, is showcasing the Riau Complex as a model for employee living that is redefining how industrial companies support their workforce. More than a residential area, the integrated township has established a new benchmark for employee living by combining quality housing, education, healthcare, recreation and community facilities within a single, self-sustaining ecosystem.

Designed to support employees and their families at every stage of life, the Riau Complex fosters a strong sense of community while providing convenient access to essential services close to the workplace. This integrated approach not only enhances wellbeing and work-life balance, but also strengthens workforce engagement, talent retention and long-term operational resilience. As industrial operations increasingly compete for skilled talent, purpose-built living environments such as the Riau Complex serve as a model for how companies can create thriving communities that support both employee success while driving sustainable business growth.

Located in Pangkalan Kerinci, the Riau Complex demonstrates how integrated residential infrastructure can enable industrial growth while enhancing employee wellbeing and community development. What began in 1993 as a quiet riverside village of just 200 homes has grown into a thriving township of more than 100,000 people today, and is now home to APR’s world-class viscose rayon operations. Over the years, the area has evolved into a key industrial and residential hub in Riau Province, supporting thousands of employees, contractors and local businesses connected to the broader manufacturing ecosystem.

Located approximately two hours from Pekanbaru, the Riau Complex integrates modern housing with education, healthcare and lifestyle infrastructure to support employees and their families near APR’s manufacturing operations. The self-sustaining community enables a smooth transition to life in Pangkalan Kerinci while fostering belonging, stability and a strong multicultural environment. Regular initiatives such as Cultural Week bring together employees of diverse nationalities to share traditions, food and performances, strengthening social cohesion and cross-cultural understanding.

The complex also hosts accredited schools managed by the Kerinci Citra Kasih Foundation (YKCK), including Mutiara Harapan School (SMH) and an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma school in Riau Province. Dedicated medical clinics, sports facilities and the RGE Community Centre (RGECC) further support employee wellbeing, professional productivity and community engagement.

Green spaces, recreational facilities and community activities further promote balanced living for residents of all ages. Together, these elements support not only operational efficiency but also the broader social and developmental wellbeing of the community, while the proximity to manufacturing sites helps reduce commuting time and improve work-life balance.

For many APR employees, these facilities play an important role in both their professional and personal life. By integrating residential, educational and recreational infrastructure into a single ecosystem, the Riau Complex supports workforce stability, employee wellbeing and APR’s long-term operational growth. The development also reflects how industrial companies are increasingly investing beyond manufacturing operations to create sustainable communities that can attract talent, strengthen employee engagement and support long-term regional development.

About APR

Asia Pacific Rayon (APR), based in Indonesia, is Asia’s first fully integrated viscose rayon producer, from plantation to fibre. APR, which has a capacity of 325,000 tons per year, is located in Pangkalan Kerinci, Riau Province, Indonesia. Hong Kong unlocks new opportunities with Central Asia

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 June 2026 – Led by Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), John Lee, a high-level delegation visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan (May 31 – June 5) is already paying dividends, forging fresh opportunities to deepen ties between Central Asia, Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.

The business delegation comprised over 70 representatives from Hong Kong and Mainland enterprises of various sectors.

During the visit, 96 bilateral memoranda of understanding and agreements were reached, including a total of 15 co-operation documents at the government level between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan respectively.

“The examples of agreements and co-operation are just so abundant that they range from the service sector to heavy industries such as mining and infrastructure development,” Mr Lee said. “I think the sky is the limit.”

The multiple outcomes achieved during the trip demonstrate Hong Kong’s role as a functional platform for the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative, as the city actively plays its roles as a “super connector” and “super value-adder” to promote broader and deeper co-operation between the two places and establish a hub-to-hub co-operation model.

“Kazakhstan is an important commercial and logistics hub connecting China and Europe. It is also the place where the Belt and Road Initiative was first proposed, and is Hong Kong’s largest trading partner in Central Asia. There are broad prospects for further co-operation,” Mr Lee said, adding that a lot of B&R projects are also being pursued in Uzbekistan.

“For example, Uzbekistan sits in the heart of the corridor of Asia and Europe, so logistical development, railway development, and also how we can complement and supplement each other in cargo handling will be an area for a very wide range of co-operation.”

New partnerships have emerged following a high-level Hong Kong business delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan.

The Chief Executive also encouraged companies in Central Asia to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages under the “one country, two systems” principle.

“Under this unique principle, Hong Kong has its own economic, social, legal, legislative and judicial systems. We are the only common law jurisdiction in China. We have our own currency, with no capital or foreign exchange controls. We are, as well, a separate customs territory,” Mr Lee said.

Building on the positive outcomes from the delegation’s mission to Central Asia, Mr Lee welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Kanat Bozumbayev, to Hong Kong (June 10) and they both attended the Alatau City Investment Round Table (June 11).

Speaking at the event, Mr Lee said Hong Kong could contribute to the future success of Kazakhstan’s innovative, high-tech Alatau City in three concrete ways: as a gateway to global capital; a gateway to the Chinese Mainland and the Greater Bay Area; and as a partner in talent and technology.

“We share a development vision with Alatau City and Kazakhstan,” Mr Lee said, “Today, right here, right now, is a golden opportunity to bring our two economies closer together.”

He looked forward to Hong Kong and Kazakhstan achieving complementary advantages and co-ordinated development across different sectors and welcomed enterprises in Kazakhstan to make good use of Hong Kong’s premier financial and innovation and technology platforms, as well as its world-leading professional services, to explore more business opportunities.

NAMAA Emerges from Stealth with 150 Facilities and a Long-Term Commitment to Middle East Food Infrastructure

Part of the wider ATOMS Group, NAMAA steps out of stealth to share the scale of its food infrastructure portfolio and outline its long-term commitment to building the systems that power F&B across the region

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – Media OutReach Newswire – 23 June 2026 – NAMAA, a real estate technology group that builds infrastructure to scale food delivery and production and a part of the wider ATOMS Group, has publicly introduced its Middle East food infrastructure portfolio. Since 2019, the company has quietly acquired and developed 150 facilities across the region, each designed to serve a distinct function within the food and beverage (F&B) ecosystem. With a clear sense of where the market is heading, NAMAA is now ready to share what has been built and where it is going next.

A Deliberate Approach to Foundation-Building
From the outset, NAMAA chose to focus its energy on fundamentals: understanding the regional landscape, forging meaningful partnerships, and putting physical infrastructure in place. That groundwork has since translated into a portfolio of facilities spanning Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The portfolio currently comprises three core offerings:

  • KitchenPark facilities – Ready-to-use CloudKitchens® commercial kitchens and Central Processing Units (CPUs) for F&B brands looking to scale without the capital burden of traditional premises
  • ProFood Bespoke builds — Tailored culinary infrastructure designed around specific operational requirements
  • CloudRetail – Purpose-built to close the gap between production and the end consumer
  • HungerHub – The region’s #1 chain of digital food courts
  • Picnic & Future Foods – Two new brands soon to be launched in the region

Significant and Sustained Investment
In 2025, NAMAA deployed close to $100 million across the Middle East, directed entirely towards expanding its footprint, supporting existing operators, and responding to the sustained demand it continues to see across markets. That investment is not slowing.

Dubai, in particular, has become a focal point. In 2026, NAMAA plans to invest approximately $40 million into the emirate alone, a marked increase from the $28 million committed there in 2025. It is a market NAMAA has come to regard as one of the most dynamic in the region: fast-moving, receptive to new models in food and logistics, and broadly supportive of the kind of infrastructure-led approach the company brings.

A Region at an Inflexion Point
The Middle East’s food landscape is shifting. Consumer demand is rising, supply chains are being rethought, and resilience has become a genuine priority for operators and governments alike. Against that backdrop, NAMAA sees a clear and enduring role for dedicated infrastructure not as a complement to the broader ecosystem, but as its foundation.

For NAMAA, the region is not just a deployment target. It is a long-term commitment that is built around empowering operators, supporting businesses of all sizes, and ultimately serving the communities these food systems exist to feed.

About NAMAA

NAMAA is a leader in driving the growth of digital food solutions, quick commerce, and the underlying real estate foundations. The founding members have been laying the groundwork in the region since 2019, guided by a philosophy centred on developing infrastructures that give consumers fast and dependable access to meals, groceries, and essentials. Part of the wider ATOMS Group, the company has since grown into a multi-sector network with operations spanning the Middle East. Among its portfolio is KitchenPark, a commercial kitchen network providing CloudKitchens® facilities and CPUs across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, as well as bespoke culinary infrastructure builds and quick-commerce-ready facilities.
