CDA completes 85pc work on Kashmir Chowk underpass in 22 days

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has completed 85 per cent of the construction work on the Kashmir Chowk underpass in 22 days and expects to finish the project within the stipulated 30-day timeframe, officials said on Sunday.

CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, during a visit to the project site, reviewed the progress of construction work and directed the concerned officials and engineering teams to maintain the pace of work to ensure its timely completion.

A briefing informed the chairman that 85 per cent of the work had been completed by October 31, despite a two-day suspension of construction activities due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.

The remaining work is being carried out to meet the 30-day completion deadline, the briefing added.

The project was being executed in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for improving infrastructure and urban facilities in the federal capital, while Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi’s “Mohsin Speed” initiative aims to accelerate the completion of development projects, according to the CDA.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had inaugurated the underpass project, while the interior minister had set a 30-day deadline for its completion.

During the visit, Sohail Ashraf directed the relevant officials, engineers and construction teams to maintain the existing pace, make effective use of available resources and ensure that the remaining work was completed within the announced timeframe.

He also emphasised adherence to construction standards, safety arrangements and timely execution of the project.

The CDA chairman said the authority was committed to developing Islamabad into a modern, clean, green, environmentally sustainable and tourism-friendly capital. He said efforts would continue to improve the city’s infrastructure and provide better civic facilities to residents.

The Kashmir Chowk underpass is aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and facilitating commuters travelling through the area. Its completion is expected to provide smoother travelling conditions for daily commuters.
