Quetta: Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan chaired a conference of Deputy Commissioners to review the progress of ongoing development projects, district administration performance, public grievance redressal, price control, agricultural income tax collection, cleanliness campaigns, educational facilities, and welfare measures.

During the briefing, the Monitoring and Evaluation Department informed the meeting that a total of 2,935 development projects across the province have been monitored, of which 1,667 projects have been completed, while work continues on the remaining schemes. The conference was also updated on the BSDI programme, under which 4,052 projects are being implemented with continuous progress reviews.

The Chief Secretary directed officials and Deputy Commissioners to ensure timely completion of ongoing projects without compromising quality, stressing that delays in public interest schemes would not be tolerated. He emphasized the need for regular monitoring to guarantee transparency and efficiency.

Highlighting social concerns, Shakeel Qadir Khan instructed district administrations to organize separate open courts for women to address their issues respectfully and effectively. He also directed that missing facilities in schools such as water supply, washrooms, electricity, boundary walls, and other essentials be provided on a priority basis, noting that access to basic educational facilities remains a key government priority.

The meeting also reviewed the performance of local governments and sanitation systems. Officials reported that cleanliness campaigns have been launched in 38 local councils. The Chief Secretary urged authorities to make these campaigns more effective, maintain sanitation in urban areas, and ensure cooperation between district administrations and local councils to provide a clean environment for citizens.

The conference was briefed on the KUMAK programme for the welfare of persons with disabilities. The Chief Secretary directed that disabled individuals be given effective access to government facilities, services, and social protection, with transparent mechanisms to ensure benefits reach deserving people.

He further instructed regular inspections of markets to monitor food prices and enforce official rates, warning that violators would face immediate action.

Shakeel Qadir Khan underscored that Deputy Commissioners serve as the primary link between government and the public, and must focus on resolving public issues, monitoring development projects, improving sanitation systems, and ensuring the provision of education and other basic facilities. He stressed that the ultimate objective of district administration performance is to deliver better services and extend the benefits of government initiatives to the grassroots level.
