Christian community demands to increase minority representation

RAWALPINDI: The Christian community has demanded to increase in the representation of minorities in the elections and urged the political parties to field candidates on the general seats as well.

Christian spiritual leader and Archbishop of Rawalpindi/Islamabad Dr. Joseph Arshad in his statement said that the

holding of general elections in the country was an important process for the promotion of democracy.

‘All political parties should field minority candidates on the general seats for real democracy so that democracy can be strengthened in the country in a better way and the minorities in the society.’

He urged the political parties to include the protection of minority rights and their welfare in their manifestos for the general election.

Joseph added that minority communities had played a key role in the development, and prosperity of the country.
