ISLAMABAD:The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (Coioed) was actively working on 5,006 cases of the missing persons received from Balochistan National Party (BNP-M), said a press release issued by the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (Coioed).
Strongly denying the pendency of 8,000 cases of missing persons in the commission, the press release said that the commission was actively working on (resolving) 5,006 cases of Missing Persons received from BNP-M. Of which
1,207 persons had already been traced and sent home.
After hearing cases, the commission observed that majority of the particulars of the enlisted missing persons were insufficient to trace their whereabouts.
Accordingly, the list of 1,073 such cases has been referred back to BNP-M for the provision of complete addresses and other particulars of the Missing Persons.
Efforts were being made to move further in this respect to diffuse the uncalled-for propaganda of missing of thousands of persons in the province of Balochistan and other parts of the country.
Giving details, it said the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (Coioed) has disposed of as many as 6,825 out of 9,035 cases received from March 2011 to October 2022.
According to Coioed, some 2,210 cases were pending till October 2022.
Moreover, the commission had received 98 new cases. Out of which 68 cases were transferred and included in the list of 5,006 Missing Persons’ list received from Balochistan National Party Mengal (BNP-M) through Prime Minister’s Office.
Moreover, the commission had disposed of 101 cases in November, 2022.
Resultantly, the number of Missing Persons’ cases under investigation in the Commission on October 31,2022 were 2,207.
It is merit mentioning here that out of these 2,207 cases, the commission had already issued Production Orders in 669 cases after thorough investigation, recording of statements of eyewitnesses, incriminating material on record and conclusions by Joint Investigation Team (JITs) and Provincial Task Force.
Thus, as a matter of fact, 1,538 cases were under investigation.
