RAWALPINDI: A comprehensive review of anti-dengue operations conducted by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani on Tuesday brought into focus both structural progress and ongoing field-level vulnerabilities in the district’s vector control strategy.
While total confirmed dengue cases in Rawalpindi district since January 1, 2026, stand at 54, with 48 patients discharged and six currently hospitalized, detailed surveillance figures indicate persistent environmental risks across commercial and residential sectors.
Epidemiological metrics submitted by the health officials during the review meeting showed that indoor vector surveillance teams evaluated over 5.42 million households, detecting dengue larvae in 192,854 residential properties.
Simultaneously, outdoor surveillance across 1.87 million hotspots revealed larval presence at 26,056 locations, highlighting recurring sanitation lapses in high-risk union councils and urban centers.
The meeting was informed that municipal authorities have registered 2,798 FIRs, sealed 686 premises, issued 2,331 challans and collected Rs 3.15 million in fines for SOP violations during the ongoing season.
Commissioner Ghani instructed executing agencies to shift focus toward targeted interventions in vulnerable union councils, demanding tighter coordination between health inspectors, waste management authorities and local administrative bodies to eliminate larvae breeding grounds before seasonal shifts.
