Commissioner seeks industrial disease data to protect workers’ health

District

Faisalabad: Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh has directed the administration of Social Security Hospital Madina Town to maintain and provide a daily record of the causes of illnesses among worker-patients visiting its outpatient department (OPD), enabling authorities to identify workplace health hazards and undertake targeted inspections of industrial units to prevent occupational diseases.

During visit to Social Security Hospital Madina Town, he emphasized that systematic disease data from the hospital’s OPD could serve as an important basis for identifying health risks associated with different industries and taking preventive measures at the source.

He directed the hospital administration to ensure provision of relevant records regarding the nature and possible causes of diseases among workers seeking treatment, saying the information would help determine which industrial units were exposing workers to particular health hazards.

He said that inspections of the concerned industrial units could subsequently be conducted to identify factors contributing to workers’ illnesses and take appropriate measures for their elimination or control.

He stressed that such a preventive approach would not only help reduce occupational health risks but also contribute to protecting the health and well-being of the labor force associated with Faisalabad’s industrial sector.

During visit, he also inspected different wards of the hospital and met patients undergoing treatment.

He inquired from them about the medical care being provided and whether they were receiving prescribed medicines and other necessary facilities.

He expressed satisfaction over the healthcare arrangements and took a keen interest in the treatment facilities available to workers at the hospital.

He also appreciated the plan to expand the hospital’s capacity from 300 to 400 beds, describing the proposed expansion and availability of state-of-the-art medical facilities as important steps towards improving healthcare services for registered workers and their families.
