Faisalabad: Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh has assured the District Bar Association (DBA) of prompt administrative action on the issues confronting the legal fraternity and announced additional streetlights at the district courts, an underground rainwater reservoir and allocation of an office at the
Commissioner’s Office for hearing Punjab Service Tribunal cases to facilitate government employees of Faisalabad division. He accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddiq visited the District Bar Association on its invitation and held detailed discussions with office-bearers and members of the legal community regarding civic, judicial and administrative issues.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Shireenah Janjejo, Assistant Commissioner City Aurangzaib Goraya, Assistant Commissioner General Dr Zeeshan Ahmad and other officers were also present.
District Bar Association President Mian Tariq Mahmood, Vice President Rana Rashid Ali Khan, Secretary Kaleem Ullah Gill, Joint Secretary Malik Sajid Shakeel and executive members received the commissioner and deputy commissioner.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh assured the lawyers that every possible step would be taken to resolve their genuine problems. He directed the deputy commissioner to initiate immediate measures.
On a demand raised by the vice president of the Bar Association, Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said that an office would be allocated to a member of Punjab Service Tribunal at Commissioner’s Office.
The facility would enable government employees from across Faisalabad division to file their appeals locally instead of facing difficulties in pursuing their cases elsewhere, he added.
He also announced the construction of an underground reservoir at the district courts to safeguard rainwater and help address water accumulation during heavy rainfall. An NGO would be assigned the task in this regard, he added.
He further said that four ponds were being developed in the city under the WWF initiative. These steps were also being taken to improve public facilities and urban environment, he added.
Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said that a scholarship program was being launched for students of public schools, under which talented children of District Bar Association members studying in public-sector schools would also be able to benefit.
Regarding revenue matters, he said that emergency measures were being taken to dispose of pending property-rights cases across the Faisalabad division on priority basis.
He also briefed the lawyers about the proposed establishment of a Divisional Revenue Court Complex and measures for conducting future hearings online.
The divisional commissioner invited members of the Bar Association to apply for membership of the sports complex being established under Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), saying that lawyers would be provided ample opportunities to participate in healthy recreational and sporting activities.
Responding to a question about road infrastructure, Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said that repair and rehabilitation work on the road from Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) to Susan Road had been completed ahead of the deadline while lane-marking work would also be completed shortly.
