LAHORE:An accountability court on Thursday adjourned until December 9 the hearing of a corruption reference against former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, his son Moonis Elahi and others over alleged corruption and kickbacks in development projects in Gujrat.
Accountability Court Judge Rana Arif heard the reference, in which National Accountability Bureau (NAB) witnesses appeared to record their statements. However, the senior defence counsel did not appear before the court, prompting an associate lawyer to request an adjournment.
The court accepted the request and postponed further proceedings until December 9, directing the NAB witnesses to appear on the next date of hearing to record their statements.
During the proceedings, Mukhtar Ahmed Ranjha appeared as a representative of Parvez Elahi, who has been granted a permanent exemption from personal appearance on medical grounds.
Former principal secretary to chief minister Muhammad Khan Bhatti and other accused also appeared before the court and marked their attendance.
The NAB reference accuses Parvez Elahi, Moonis Elahi, Muhammad Khan Bhatti and others of corruption and receiving kickbacks in connection with development projects in Gujrat.
Moonis Elahi has been declared a proclaimed offender in the reference.
