Faisalabad: The district administration in collaboration with Food Department has launched a vigorous crackdown against flour hoarding, artificial shortage and illegal profiteering in Faisalabad.
A spokesman of district administration said here on Wednesday that following special directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nadeem Nasir, the food department teams conducted raids in different parts of the city and suspended licenses of 13 shopkeepers involved in selling flour at inflated prices besides sealing two shops over serious violations. The profiteers were also handed down with total fines of Rs.370,000/-, he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir said that uninterrupted supply of flour at officially fixed rates was top priority of the administration.
He said that more than 70,000 flour bags were being supplied to markets daily across the district to prevent any artificial shortage.
He said that the government had fixed official price of a 15-kg flour bag at Rs.1,810 and a 10-kg bag at Rs.905. Strict implementation of these rates would be ensured in all circumstances, he added.
