Rawalpindi: City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have stepped up their crackdown on one-wheeling and reckless driving, taking strict action against violators without discrimination.
According to CTP spokesperson, 18 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against individuals involved in one-wheeling and negligent or reckless driving, while 2,093 motorists were issued challan tickets for dangerous driving and other serious traffic violations.
The traffic police warned that underage drivers would face fines, while their motorcycles or vehicles would also be impounded and taken to the police station. One-wheeling cases will result in FIRs rather than challans, official said.
Action will also be taken against mechanics involved in modifying motorcycles for one-wheeling, according to the traffic police. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam said a zero-tolerance policy was being adopted against one-wheeling and reckless driving. He urged parents to play a positive role in preventing underage driving and one-wheeling.
Aslam also appealed to citizens to immediately report incidents of one-wheeling and racing to the traffic police helpline, saying cooperation from citizens, particularly parents, was essential to curb the dangerous practice. He said the traffic police remained committed to make roads safer and protecting commuters from road accidents.
