Sialkot: Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Awais Mushtaq on Monday directed all relevant departments to intensify field monitoring and take strict action against violations to prevent smog and control environmental pollution.
According to a spokesperson for the DC Office. he issued the directions while chairing a meeting of the District Anti-Smog Committee. which reviewed measures being taken to curb smog and ensure implementation of environmental laws.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Municipal Services) Mian Sarmad Hussain. SP Investigation. Managing Director WASA and officers of the Environment. Agriculture. Mines and Minerals. Regional Transport Authority and Traffic Police attended the meeting.
The deputy commissioner directed the concerned departments to remain active in the field and ensure effective implementation of anti-smog measures. He ordered indiscriminate legal action against those involved in burning crop residues.
He also directed the Agriculture Department to intensify awareness among farmers about environment-friendly alternatives for disposal of crop residues and stressed that continuous monitoring should be carried out to prevent violations.
Awais Mushtaq said that negligence in implementation of anti-smog measures would not be tolerated and directed all departments to submit regular performance reports regarding actions taken in their respective areas.
