Sargodha: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wasim chaired a meeting to review traffic congestion, road safety, accident prevention and improvement of the city’s traffic management system.
According to an official spokesperson here, the meeting was attended by District Police Officer Sohaib Ashraf, District Traffic Officer, SP Patrol Police, Secretary RTA, XEN Highways, and other concerned departments. Detailed discussions were held on increasing traffic pressure, over-speeding, wrong overtaking, unnecessary U-turns and parking-related issues across the city. The meeting also reviewed road rehabilitation and reconstruction projects, including Punjab College to Rickshaw Market via Zafar Ullah Chowk; Stadium Road from Shama Chowk to Sargodha Stadium; Zafar Ullah Chowk to Stadium Chowk via Ibrahim Hospital; Block No. 12 Chowk to Water Supply Road; Railway Road; Khayam Chowk to Medical Store via Trust Plaza; and Satellite Town Chowk to 33 Phatak via Gulwala.
The meeting reviewed redesigning of key intersections, including extension of the divider from Bomb Chowk to Shaheen Chowk and modern, safer redesigning of Shaheen Chowk. A proposal to allow one-way entry on Session Road from Bomb Chowk and from Azadi Chowk to DPO Office Chowk was also discussed.
The meeting also decided to take steps, in consultation with RTA, to shift bus stands from inner city areas to reduce congestion. Addressing the meeting, the DC said that protection of citizens’ lives and property is the top priority. He emphasized strict enforcement of traffic laws, improvement of road infrastructure and adoption of modern traffic management practices to significantly reduce accidents.
