DEC meeting held

District

SARGODHA:A meeting of the District Election Commission (DEC) was held at the DEC office on Thursday under the supervision of District Election Commissioner Arshad Ali to review the existing disparity between male and registered female voters in the district.

According to a spokesperson, during the meeting, District Election Commissioner Arshad Ali said that while census data indicated no gender disparity, electoral rolls currently reflect a difference of over 4.96 percent between male and female registered voters.

To bridge this gap, the DEC directed NADRA authorities to submit monthly reports on newly registered voters through mobile van services and urged them to accelerate the ongoing registration drive. He further instructed NADRA teams to extend maximum facilitation to new identity card applicants to streamline the voter registration process.

Briefing the meeting, NADRA representatives stated that the authority is working on a war-footing basis to facilitate citizens. They highlighted that a specialized “NADRA Man Pack” service is operational, utilizing motorcycles to deliver doorstep registration facilities to disabled persons.

During the session, government officials informed the forum that Sargodha comprises 186 union councils, noting that a shortage of UC secretaries has resulted in several officials handling additional responsibilities. Furthermore, minority representatives raised various concerns regarding the vote registration process, prompting the DEC to issue on-the-spot directives to the concerned departments for prompt resolution.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including officials from NADRA, the local government department, and respective DEC officers. Assistant Director DEC Abu Baker presented a comprehensive report detailing the numerical difference between male and female registered voters across the district.
