LAHORE:Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran Monday directed police officers to intensify action against illegal moneylenders and exploitative elements, including those involved in interest-based transactions and mortgage fraud, while reiterating that timely redressal of public complaints was a top priority.
During an open court at his office, he listened to citizens’ complaints and issued directions for legal guidance and necessary action. The initiative followed a Facebook Live open court held a day earlier, which was attended by citizens from Pakistan and abroad, according to a police spokesperson.
During the online session, the DIG discussed the importance of the electronic tagging (e-tag) system and police accountability. He said four station house officers (SHOs) had been removed from their posts over failure to issue e-tags, while front-desk staff had also been suspended.
He described the action against the four SHOs as a clear message to other police officials and urged citizens to obtain an e-tag receipt after submitting a complaint. The system ensured that complaints were recorded in the relevant police and Punjab chief minister’s databases, he added.
Faisal Kamran advised citizens to inform senior police officers if they were not issued e-tags. He also cautioned the public against online fraud, urging them to approach the relevant departments for official services and avoid paying money to unauthorised individuals in response to online advertisements.
The DIG warned that SHOs who failed to take timely action on public complaints would be held accountable. He said he listened to citizens’ problems six days a week, from 1 pm to 3 pm, providing them direct access through both online and office-based open courts.
He reiterated that prompt resolution of complaints and transparent policing remained the department’s foremost priorities.
