Lahore: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir directed traffic police across the province to take effective action against professional beggars disrupting traffic at roads and signals.
He directed all districts to take measures to curb professional begging and ensure that traffic disruption caused by beggars was not tolerated.
Muhammad Waqas Nazir appreciated the Lahore Traffic Police’s initiative for rehabilitating beggars in collaboration with rehabilitation centers and welfare organizations, describing it as a model for other districts to follow.
He directed traffic officers across Punjab to adopt the Lahore model and take practical steps for the rehabilitation of beggars.
The DIG stressed that efforts to curb begging should be accompanied by measures to rehabilitate such individuals and help them become productive members of society. He directed the concerned officers to ensure cooperation in shifting beggars to rehabilitation centers and welfare organizations.
