Sargodha: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner(DC),Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry,the district administration has initiated consultations to determine the price of kinnow for the upcoming season,keeping in view the interests of growers,exporters and other stakeholders associated with the citrus trade.
In this connection,a meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner(ADC) Social Services Muhammad Arshad Wattoo was held here on Saturday to review the expected kinnow price,production situation,market trends and export prospects.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Director Stress Research Institute,Deputy Director(DD) Agriculture,EADA,District Officer Industries,Kinnow Growers Association,kinnow factory owners and the Chamber of Commerce.
The participants discussed production costs,fruit quality,market demand,export conditions and issues faced by growers in determining the kinnow price for the upcoming season.
Various proposals were also presented in light of prevailing market trends, export prospects and business costs.
The meeting was informed that favourable weather conditions were expected to contribute to improved kinnow production during the current season.
However,participants noted that conditions in export markets, border and trade situations, freight costs and global demand could affect kinnow prices.
They stressed that production costs incurred by growers,fruit quality,market demand and export requirements should be taken into account while determining the price to safeguard the interests of growers,exporters and other stakeholders associated with the kinnow trade.
It was agreed that another consultative meeting with representatives of the Kinnow Growers Association would be held next week to discuss growers’ issues, concerns and proposals.
The final kinnow price would be determined after consultation with all relevant stakeholders and a comprehensive review of the prevailing market situation and available data.
