Muzaffarabad: Newly elected President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Dr. Muhammad Najeeb Naqi took oath of his office at President House here on Thursday evening.
Chief Justice AJK, Justice Raja Saeed Akram administered the oath to him. The ceremony was attended by AJK Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gilani, Ministers of the cabinet, members of legislative Assembly Judges of Superior judiciary, senior civil and military officers and political leaders including ruling Pakistan Mulim League Nawaz (PML-N) AJK chapter head Shah Ghulam Qader and former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan.
Earlier, he got elected by securing 32 votes of Electoral College compared to his opponent candidate from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Ch. Latif Akbar’s who received 13 votes. Naqi hails from troubled Poonch region and expected that his election in the office will pave the way to normalize the situation ending a lock-down of more than three months in the region.
