Sargodha: The first Canal Palm Sargodha Marathon will be held on October 4, with athletes from across Pakistan expected to participate.
Speaking at a press conference, Canal Palm Managing Director Hassan Shah said the event aimed to promote sports, healthy living and a positive image of Sargodha. He urged citizens, particularly youth and families, to participate.
International athlete Ali Muhammad Awan said the marathon would feature three categories: 10km open, 5km under-14 and 5km over-40. The 5km race will start and finish at the Canal Palm gate after reaching Chadhar Chowk, while the 10km race will cover No. 9 Chungi and Chadhar Chowk before returning to Canal Palm.
Registration is free, with online forms available through Canal Palm and Sports Department websites. Participants completing the race will receive certificates and medals.
The event was being organized with the support of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan, district administration, security agencies, Sports Department, University of Sargodha, Superior College and other institutions.
Major General (retd) Akram Sahi, Chairman South Asia Athletics and Vice President Asian Athletics, will be the chief guest. Women’s international athlete Musarat said female athletes from across Pakistan had also shown strong interest in the event.
