‘Flour supply is sufficient and stable across province’

Lahore: Punjab Food Director General Amjad Hafeez has said that flour supply is sufficient and completely stable across the province.

According to official sources here on Thursday he said that on January 7, flour mills in Punjab had ground 33,000 metric tons of wheat. He said that out of this almost 15,000 metric tons of government wheat was issued to flour mills on controlled rate, adding that on January 7, almost 2 million sacks of flour were provided in the market which was higher than the normal daily supply.

He said, “There is no shortage of flour in the market.”

Amjad Hafeez further stated that 950,000 bags were supplied to the market on officially notified government rates.

He said that 10-kg of flour bag was available at Rs 905 and 20-kg bag at Rs 1,810 in the market.

The DG further said that field teams were continuously carrying out market inspections to ensure rate compliance, and in case of any report of overpricing, price control magistrates take immediate action.

He stated that in view of the holy month of Ramadan, the supply chain system had been further strengthened.

He said, “Complete preparations have been made to further increase grinding and distribution in line with the rising demand during the blessed month of Ramadan.”

Amjad Hafeez said that during Ramadan, flour would be available to people without any interruption and at official rates.

All administrative and field resources will remain active to ensure the availability of flour.
