Food Safety Authority takes action after unsanitary conditions found at Khanpur dam

District

HARIPUR:Assistant Director of Halal Food Safety Authority Haripur Raqiya Nawaz Thursday conducted an inspection visit to the popular tourist destination, Khanpur Dam to check and ensure food safety and hygiene standards at various food points and hotels catering to tourists.

The inspection covered a wide range of facilities, including hotels, fast-food outlets, snack shops, and general stores. Unfortunately, during the thorough examination, the team discovered several food spots with highly unsatisfactory conditions in their kitchens and freezers. Furthermore, it came to light that some of the employees did not possess valid medical fitness certificates which is a crucial requirement in food handling.

Taking immediate action in the interest of public health, the Food Safety Team made the decision to seal off the kitchens of two hotels due to their substandard conditions. Additionally, fines were imposed on the violators.

Assistant Director Raqiya Nawaz emphasized the importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the food industry. She called upon all hotel owners and shopkeepers to prioritize food safety and ensure the sale of quality and hygienic food to protect the health of the community and visiting tourists.
