Lahore:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said the mission to strengthen provincial border checkpoints is progressing towards completion.
Addressing a video-link meeting at the Central Police Office on Wednesday, he emphasised that Punjab Police’s border and riverine checkpoints were the first line of defence against terrorists. “These checkpoints play a crucial role in combating smuggling and illegal activities,” he said and added that prevention of weapon and terrorism material transport through Taunsa Ghazi Ghat and Mithanwala bridge must be ensured, with timely and effective countermeasures based on ground realities and intelligence reports.
He added that the riverine checkpoints were being further strengthened with modern resources and infrastructure development. Personnel at these checkpoints have been equipped with bulletproof vests, helmets, modern vehicles, and logistics. Dr. Usman Anwar also directed all DPOs to regularly inspect border and riverine checkpoints, and to im
prove the quality of facilities and resources for the stationed personnel.
DPO of Rajanpur provided a briefing on the deployment, facilities, resources, and challenges at the checkpoints. Dr. Usman Anwar encouraged the personnel to carry out their duties with enthusiasm and commitment.
Under the leadership of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, regular video link meetings are being held with officers and personnel stationed at these checkpoints. DPO of Rajanpur, Captain (Retd) Dost Muhammad, and the in-charges and staff of the Nowshera Sharqi and Sontra checkpoints participated via video link. The meeting also included DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir and DIG Establishment I Suleman Sultan Rana.
