ISLAMABAD:Indian fascist Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hindutva activists have created an environment of fear for journalists in India.
According to reporter, suppression of free press has become a feature of RSS-backed Modi regime and threats to journalists have intensified in India since Modi became prime minister in 2014, a report released, today, by reporter said.
It pointed out that independent journalists in India are not only facing attacks from the Hindutva goons but also being booked under draconian laws.
“Journalists in India are facing intimidation for criticizing Modi and his government. Free speech in India, though apparently guaranteed in constitution, is forbidden in reality. Criminal cases and arrests are increasingly common against journalists not toeing the line of Modi government,” it said.
The report maintained that BJP-led Indian regime is silencing its critics even on Facebook and Twitter. It said India under Modi has become a dangerous country for journalists who are exposed to every kind of attack including the police violence.
The report said that as per international media watchdog, Reporters Without Borders, four journalists were killed in 2021, making India the third-most deadly country. It said in the past five years at least 18 journalists have been killed in India.
The report said that the world must hold Modi regime accountable over suppression of free press in India. It added that assault on journalism in India is a wake-up call for global media organizations.
