Govt vows to keep LPG prices stable ahead of winter

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Wednesday pledged to maintain liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices ahead of the winter season, assuring consumers that the government was taking measures to ensure stable prices and an uninterrupted supply amid rising demand.

Speaking to a private television channel, the minister said the government was working to increase LPG supplies in anticipation of a significant rise in consumption during the coming months. He stressed that maintaining price stability and ensuring adequate availability of the fuel remained key priorities, particularly as winter approaches.

Malik warned that strict action would be taken against those found overcharging consumers to earn undue profits. He said the government was committed to protecting consumers from unjustified price increases and ensuring that LPG remained available at reasonable rates.

Highlighting the challenges facing the energy sector, the minister said regional crises had affected fuel prices and disrupted supply chains, creating difficulties for imports and distribution. He also outlined different channels through which LPG could be imported and discussed the hurdles faced during the import process under the prevailing circumstances.

Responding to a question, Malik praised the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, claiming that a large number of eligible vehicle owners were receiving petrol at rates equivalent to those prevailing before the regional crises. He said the initiative was aimed at providing relief to eligible consumers amid continuing pressures on fuel prices.
