RAWALPINDI: To create awareness about the hazards of smog, the District Health Authority, Rawalpindi distributed pamphlets and masks in various areas of the city here on Thursday.
On the occasion, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Aamir Sheikh said that the objective of the activity was to reach out to a maximum number of people and to educate the general public about the precautionary measures to avoid smog.
He asked the residents to ensure the spraying of water to prevent dust and to use masks and glasses.
The DHO advised the people to avoid bringing smoke emitting vehicles on roads which was harmful to the environment and human health.
He said that the promotion of tree plantation was vital for avoiding smog and checking environmental pollution.
Dr Aamir appealed to the people to not burn waste and chemicals in the open as they were the major cause of smog, adding burning garbage was a legal offence.
He said that smog might affect human health during the start of the winter season due to the change in climate and environmental pollution.
