Hepatitis screening continues at five public health centres

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:The free hepatitis C screening, diagnosis and treatment facility continues at five public health centres in Islamabad under the Prime Minister’s Programme for the Elimination of Hepatitis C, enabling residents to access essential services closer to their communities.

According to official sources, the District Health Office (DHO) Islamabad is providing these services at Rural Health Centres in Tarlai, Bhara Kahu and Sihala, the Community Health Centre in Rawat, and the Basic Health Unit in Sohan.

The programme aims to promote early detection of hepatitis C and ensure timely access to treatment to reduce the disease burden and prevent its further spread, they said.

Residents can also approach their nearest government health facility for information about available hepatitis screening and treatment services.

DHO officials emphasized that early screening is important because hepatitis C may remain asymptomatic for years, while timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help prevent serious liver complications.

They said the initiative forms part of national efforts to eliminate hepatitis C by expanding access to free screening, diagnosis and treatment, particularly for people who might otherwise face financial barriers to healthcare.
