KARACHI:Center for Excellence in Islamic Finance (CEIF) of Institute of Business Administration, Karachi has organised a two-day ‘3rd World Islamic Finance Forum’ (WIFF-2022), which will start from May 30 at a local hotel. The theme of this international event is ‘Development of Islamic Finance Ecosystem for Global Prosperity’.
Addressing a presser at IBA Karachi, on Friday, Chairman IBA -CEIF, Dr. Ishrat Husain said that WIFF-2022 aimed at bringing together Shari’ah scholars, renowned academicians, leading Islamic bankers, regulators as well as prominent personalities from global Islamic financial and infrastructural institutions to discuss issues and challenges faced by the industry.
He said that IBA Karachi’s CEIF had been actively working for the promotion and development of Islamic Finance. One of their focus areas was promoting innovation and research in the field of Islamic finance, focused at sustainable national and global economic development.
Dr Ishrat also referred to the International Credit Rating Agency Report by Moody’s which appreciated the efforts of Islamic finance industry reflecting a 24% growth rate.
The press conference was also attended by IBA’s Executive Director Dr. S. Akbar Zaidi, Director IBA CEIF, Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, President and CEO of Meezan Bank Limited, Irfan Siddiqui, Group Head Islamic Banking, Bank Alfalah Limited, Dr Muhammad Imran, Executive Director, Salaam Takaful Limited, Dr Syed Nayyar Hussain Zaidi, President and CEO, Yousaf Hussain, Head Sharia’ah Compliance, BankIslami Pakistan Limited Muhammad Irfan Ahmed, Associate Professor and Program Director MS IBF – IBA, Dr. Irum Saba.
Dr. Irum Saba spoke of the role of WIFF in uniting the Islamic finance industry despite intense competition. WIFF was promoting the participation of graduates of Islamic Madrassas and providing them with a platform to present their research to the industry.
In response to a question regarding involvement of Shari’ah Scholars, Director IBA-CEIF Ahmed Ali Siddiqui shared that the conference would have closed and open-door sessions inviting 50+ scholars.
The two-day event would also feature keynote addresses of Shaikh Muhammad Taqi Usmani , Mufti Muneeb- ur- Rehman and Mufti Irshad Ahmed Aijaz from State Bank of Pakistan.
The conference would have 50+ local and international speakers from the Islamic Finance industry and around 400 participants. While, Federal Finance Minister, Dr. Miftah Ismail and Acting Governor of State Bank of Pakistan, Dr. Murtaza Syed would grace the occasion as chief guests.
