Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday sought a report regarding determination of responsibility and action taken against the Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in connection with the deaths of newborns at the hospital.
Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar heard a petition filed by a citizen seeking action against the PIMS Executive Director over the incident.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel described the deaths of newborns at PIMS as an extremely tragic incident and urged the court to remove the Executive Director from his post and take action against him. The counsel also requested that the officer’s services be withdrawn in addition to his removal from the post.
The Chief Justice observed that the court could not direct the government to remove an officer from a post, adding that, to his understanding, the Executive Director PIMS had already been removed from the position.
The petitioner’s counsel, however, submitted that although the officer had been removed from the post, no responsibility had been fixed against him and the inquiry report had also not held him responsible.
Additional Attorney General Rashid Hafeez informed the court that the report submitted earlier was provisional and that the complete inquiry report would be submitted within five days.
The court subsequently sought a report regarding determination of responsibility and action taken against the Executive Director PIMS and adjourned the hearing.
