Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) stopped the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from cutting trees in the federal capital.
The court has issued notices to the CDA, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (PEPA) and the Ministry of Climate Change seeking a clause-wise response and a detailed report on the petition from the parties by February 2.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro heard the petition of citizen Muhammad Naveed against the cutting of trees in Islamabad.
Advocate Mudassar Latif Abbasi appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner and took the position that the process of cutting trees is going on in Islamabad against the rules and regulations. Cutting trees also faces environmental changes which are dangerous. Cutting trees is also a violation of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Act.
The court summoned the Assistant Attorney General to the rostrum and asked why are you cutting trees? The court has issued a restraining order on the cutting of trees until February 2 and has issued notices to the parties and sought their response.
