Multan: In a major drive to cleanse the city of professional beggars, Multan Police have been carrying out a sustained and effective crackdown for the last two months with remarkable results.
As per special directives of the City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar, special teams of Multan Police and the Pink Squad have been deployed across the city and were actively conducting actions in different areas. The teams were arresting organized and professional beggars who had turned begging into a regular source of income.
According to police spokesman, more than 1,000 professional beggars have been arrested so far during the ongoing operation, while 1,000 FIRs have also been registered against those involved in the begging network. Many of the arrested individuals were found to be operating in an organized manner, exploiting public sympathy and affecting civic order.
He stated that the objective of the crackdown was to protect citizens from exploitation, improve public discipline, and ensure a cleaner and more organized urban environment. Legal action was also being taken against groups and handlers linked with the begging mafia.
