Khanewal: The district administration has constituted an investigation committee after a patient undergoing procedure at the dialysis ward of Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, Mian Channu, tested positive for HIV in an initial ELISA screening.
According to the Khanewal Health Department, the patient’s sample has been sent to a laboratory in Multan for a confirmatory PCR test. Officials said the case cannot be conclusively diagnosed as HIV/AIDS until the PCR report is received.
The patient is being provided the necessary medical care, facilities and counselling in accordance with established medical protocols, the department said.
Meanwhile, screening of the remaining 69 patients receiving treatment at the dialysis ward has been initiated to assess the situation and determine whether any further cases require investigation.
The Health Department said dialysis patients are routinely screened for HIV and other essential health indicators every six months as part of standard medical protocols.
The investigation committee constituted by the district administration will examine all aspects of the matter and submit a fact-based report. Officials said the final position would be determined after the confirmatory PCR report and the committee’s findings are received.
