Bahawalpur: The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has secured 15th position among Pakistani universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, while retaining its place in the 801-1000 global ranking band, according to a university press release.

The 2027 edition of the THE World University Rankings assesses 2,297 institutions across 118 countries and territories. THE evaluates research-intensive universities across five broad areas – teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry – using 17 performance indicators.

The IUB said one of the strongest aspects of its performance was its 79.4 score in Research Quality. THE’s Research Quality pillar accounts for 30 per cent of the overall ranking and incorporates four measures: citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence. THE says its citation-impact measure draws on bibliometric data covering research publications and citations indexed through Elsevier’s Scopus database.

The IUB also reported a 49.0 score in International Outlook, which reflects the university’s performance in international students, international staff and international research collaboration under THE’s methodology.

The university described the result as recognition of the research and academic work of its faculty, researchers, students and administrative staff. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran said maintaining the university’s global position while improving its national standing reflected the institution’s focus on research, academic infrastructure and international partnerships.

The latest result continues IUB’s presence in the 801-1000 global band. In the 2026 edition, the university was also placed in the 801-1000 category and recorded a Research Quality score of 80.3, according to IUB’s previous ranking announcement.
