LAHORE:Punjab Minister for Local Government & Community Development (LGCD) Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 2.10 billion under the Punjab Cities Programme (PCP) in Jhelum on Friday. Coordinator PCP Muhammad Ashraf Sohna and Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Nauman Hafeez were also present, said a handout issued here. Speaking at a gathering, Mehmoodur Rasheed said that the Punjab Cities Programme had been started with support of the World Bank for development of small cities that would improve sanitation system of Jhelum city to a great extent. He said sanitation and supply of clean drinking water was the first priority of the Punjab government, adding that now the dirty water of drains would not be thrown into the river but a treatment plant would be installed for it. Announcing one billion rupees more for uplift of Jhelum city, the minister said mega projects had now been completed by the government in the shortest time. He said that thousands of acres of land would be irrigated by the Jalalpur Irrigation Project and in the next six months, Jhelum would look like a changed city.
