PESHAWAR:The district administration and police on Thursday conducted a joint operation aimed at curbing hoarding and illegal activities in Mohmand district. The operation included searches at various shops, with a particular focus on hawala and hundi businesses.
Led by Assistant Commissioner Upper Mohmand, Sajjad Hussain Afridi, the operation received oversight from District Police Officer (DPO) Sardar Hussain, Tehsildar Syar Ahmad from Headquarters Ghulam Dastagir and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nadir Sher.
During the operation, authorities apprehended a shopkeeper in Miang Mandi Bazaar who was found hoarding 2,000 boxes, each containing 5 kilograms of ghee. An FIR has been registered under the Food Control Act, reflecting the seriousness of the offense.
Additional shops were also scrutinized due to suspicions of involvement in hawala-related activities.
Assistant Commissioner Upper Mohmand, Sajjad Hussain, emphasized that on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ihtesham ul Haq, these operations would persist across the district. Legal actions will be taken against those engaged in hoarding and hawala businesses, with imposing penalties, he added.
The Assistant Commissioner underscored the cooperation among local authorities, market unions and the public in eradicating illegal activities. This concerted effort aims to combat various unlawful practices, such as the sale of underweight goods, substandard food items, hoarding, drug trafficking and hawala transactions, he said and added that stringent punitive measures would be enforced against those found in illegal activities.
