Peshawar: The Agriculture Extension Department has launched an initiative in Kohat to introduce modern farming techniques among farmers in rain-fed areas and distributed free agricultural medicines, fertiliser and fruit saplings.
Additional Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Planning Syed Aamir Ali Shah attended the event as chief guest. District Agriculture Director Asif Iqbal, Deputy Director Mohammad Shoaib, former Additional Director General of Agriculture Zahirullah Khattak, District Director Research Mohammad Ilyas and other agriculture officials and experts were also present.
Agricultural experts briefed farmers on improved chickpea cultivation, establishment of fruit orchards, balanced use of fertilisers and pesticides, pest and disease control, and measures to maintain soil fertility.
Officials said the introduction of modern agricultural technology, along with better access to research and technical services, could help farmers make more effective use of limited resources in rain-fed areas and improve crop productivity.
At the conclusion of the event, Shah distributed free agricultural medicines, fertiliser and fruit saplings among farmers.
The participating farmers welcomed the initiative and called for continuation of similar programmes to support agricultural development in rain-fed areas.
