KP police establish Pakistan’s first UAV unit, activate anti-drone system

District

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have announced the establishment of Pakistan’s first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Unit as part of its efforts to adopt modern technology. The police have also linked the Safe City cameras with an anti-drone system to monitor and control drone activities from a central command centre.

DIG IT Ejaz Ahmed announced the development during a press conference at the Safe City Command and Control Centre in Peshawar Police Lines on Friday.

He said the newly established UAV unit was the first of its kind in Pakistan, adding that the anti-drone system had also been integrated with Safe City cameras. The complete system will be displayed in the control room, enabling relevant personnel to monitor drone activities.

He said the anti-drone system would help counter potential drone attacks, while information and live footage of drone activities across the province would be monitored at the Safe City Command and Control Centre.

The system will also enable authorities to manage drone-related operations from a single location, bringing surveillance and operational control under one centralized network.

The initiative aims at integrating drone technology with modern surveillance systems to strengthen security and monitoring capabilities across the province.
