Peshawar: Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rehan Gul Khattak has said that the Prison Visitors’ Management System in the province is being upgraded at a cost of Rs. 28 million.
Talking to Director General (DG) Information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ansarullah Khilji, who visited his office here, he said that Rs. 37 million has been allocated for telemedicine services, under which prisoners will be examined by specialist doctors via Zoom.
He said that the inmates of prisons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can now connect with their families anywhere in the world through video calls.
Acknowledging that prison staff are affected by the prison environment, the IG prisons said a substantial amount is being spent on their mental health and wellness through therapy programs.
He said that concrete steps are being taken to skill juvenile prisoners to help them become productive and law-abiding citizens.
The Inspector General appreciated the guidance and continued support of the Chief Minister for improving the prison system in the province.
