PESHAWAR:Provincial minister of Local Government, Elections and Rural Development Sardar Faisal Amin Gandapur on Thursday awarded certificates of appreciation to senior municipal officers and officials for the best drainage arrangements during the recent floods.
Local Government Secretary Syed Zaheerul Islam Shah was also present on this occasion.
The certificates distributions ceremony was held at the Local Government Secretariat here.
The participants included heads TMAs, WSSCs, Area Development Authorities, Village and Neighborhood Councils of different cities who have been engaged in various field formations round the clock and served the people along with their subordinate staff.
The administrative officers of various districts, Tehsil Mayor Babuzai Swat Shahid Ali, certain members of Provincial Assembly, Director General of LG, Secretary Local Council Board and other relevant high ups also participated in the ceremony.
On this occasion, the minister while commending the municipal staff performance during the difficult times, said hat he was proud of his municipal officers especially for timely helping the flood victims in the recent rains and floods alongside the district administration everywhere in the province and worst hit areas in particular.
Similarly, he said, the KP government and people were also impressed of their hard work despite odd hours of heavy floods, rains whereas there have been minimal complaints of drainage in urban areas.
This performance, he said was even recognized and praised by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and the members of the assembly, besides being acknowledged at the national and international levels as well that is a big honor for all of us as nation.
He also appreciated the active role of Secretary Local Government Syed Zaheerul Islam Shah in this regard and paid him rich tribute for making the local government department fully streamlined throughout the province during a devastating natural disaster like flood.
On this occasion, the minister and secretary of Local Government further said that the municipal officers and officials have not only shown excellent performance during Eid-ul-Azha by timely disposal of sacrificial animal offal and ensuring health and cleanliness, but also in the recent rains and floods.
This gesture, they asserted, has played a key role in enhancing the morale of both the government and the people by bringing the infrastructure, lives and properties losses to a minimum level in the entire province including the merged districts.
Such an outstanding performance has been appreciated at large scale, they added and expressed the hope that the municipal officials will continue to be ready to rehabilitate the flood victims and will prove to be the vanguard of the relevant administration in drainage, prevention of epidemics, spraying, organising health camps and other relief operations in the affected areas.
The Minister said that the municipal officers should make full preparations to deal with climate change situation and natural calamities and become a strong support of the provincial government.
He said that the rehabilitation work of the flood victims has been promptly started and the finance department has released emergency funds wherein the role of municipal officials is also of indispensable importance, he concluded.
