Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by national cricketer Muhammad Rizwan challenging an inquiry initiated against him by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over alleged betting-related activities.
LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition, with Rizwan’s counsel Qazi Umair Ali appeared on his behalf.
During the proceedings, the counsel submitted that the NCCIA had issued notices to Rizwan in connection with allegations relating to betting.
The chief justice expressed displeasure with the counsel for failing to produce the case file before the court. She observed that Rizwan had already appeared before the NCCIA on September 10 in response to its summons.
The court directed Rizwan’s counsel to approach the agency, explain his client’s position and submit a response to the notices. The petition was subsequently dismissed.
In his petition, Rizwan had challenged the NCCIA notices, terming them unlawful and without jurisdiction. He stated that he had appeared before the agency on September 10 and answered various questions.
According to the petition, the NCCIA had accused him of involvement in online betting and gambling related to cricket, a charge he described as baseless.
