Hyderabad: The Department of Medicine, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), in collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Physicians (PSP) and Tabros Pharma, organized the third educational session on hypertension under the CARE Program.
The session was held at the IT Hall of LUMHS Jamshoro on Thursday, while participants from Karachi, Sukkur, Nawabshah and Khairpur/Gambat also joined the session through online.
According to the LUMHS spokesperson, the vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan was the chief guest. He said such programs helped doctors acquire updated knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.
He emphasized the importance of understanding the link between hypertension, kidney and heart diseases to help reduce complications associated with cardiovascular diseases in Pakistan. He also expressed his vision of making LUMHS a leading university at the international level.
On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan was also congratulated on his reappointment as Vice Chancellor of LUMHS for a second term. Faculty members, PSP office bearers and participants expressed confidence in his leadership.
The session was chaired by the chairman of the department of medicine LUMHS and PSP Hyderabad Coordinator Prof. Dr. Santosh Kumar, who highlighted the importance of timely and accurate diagnosis of hypertension.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Rind spoke on the treatment of secondary hypertension, while Interventional Cardiologist at NICVD and Associate Professor LUMHS Dr. Shahid Hussain Memon discussed modern treatment approaches related to hypertension, kidney and heart diseases.
Prof. Dr. Masood Hameed Khan, Prof. Dr. Qaiser Jamal, Prof. Dr. S. Iftikhar Ali Shah, Prof. Dr. Imran Ali Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ali Lakho, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Rahimoon and Dr. Lala Jaffer Khan were among the experts and faculty members who attended the session. The program concluded with a Q and A session during which participants asked various questions from the experts.
